2FAST4U
I noticed that for some unknown reason, the fuel door on my 2019 Edge is larger than the one on my previous 2016 Edge... Why?... Claude.
omar302
My guess is to accommodate for the space required to have a filler for adblue (diesel exhaust fluid) tank in case it would be required for some export markets. Looking at owners manuals for UK & Australian models, they don't seem to use adblue, so cannot be sure. Maybe for some other markets or maybe after the refresh they didn't need it anymore but the larger fuel door already went into production. It has a much higher tow rating too. omar302
It is also sold in Australia as the Ford Endura from 2019. Also diesel.
michadoh
This might be aesthetic purposes. Does this affect your performance or this just bothers you?

Does this affect your performance or this just bothers you? No neither! ...it doesn't have anything to do with the vehicle's performance... and also it doesn't bother me. It's just that having had a '16 Titanium, I remember the fuel door was a little smaller on it than on my newer '19 model and a few days ago my '19 was parked next to my previous '16 (which I sold to a member of my family) and indeed the door is larger on my new one. I was just curious why?... Claude. Edited June 29, 2020 by 2FAST4U
2FAST4U
Every time I fill up my Edge I can't help but notice that the fuel door is quite larger on 2019 and up models... Does someone knows why ? Seems to me that the one on 2015 - 2018's was ok... Claude. Edited November 26, 2020 by 2FAST4U

handfiler
I'm heading out to the garage now to take a long hard look at my fuel door.
todd92
It's very common for multi-market vehicles that are sold with diesel engines to have a bigger fuel door to allow space for the DEF filler next to the fuel cap.
2FAST4U
Oops...sorry, I just realized that I already asked this question in another post... Claude.
omar302
Old thread, I know, but just saw a video on YouTube and saw the DEF/adblue filler next to the fuel (diesel) filler and remembered this thread. Below is a screenshot at around the 0:45 mark. Edited January 3, 2022 by omar302
