Yukoner
Good day, we just had an 18' dump of snow and backing out of my parking stall my AWD drive disabled within 15 seconds, I hadn't even finished backing up. Car was warmed up so I don't think that was the issue. This has happen many times. Has anybody had this happen? I wasn't heavy footed either. dolsen
I have a hard time believing your AWD overheated if the temps are below freezing AND you weren't pushing the vehicle hard. Unless you have low or incorrect fluid (wrong viscosity) in any of the AWD gear boxes. I am not sure if you are getting an "overheating" error or code but it sounds like an issue with something else that is manifesting itself an an overheating issue.
Yukoner
Just tried it again on flat hardpacked snow, 4 seconds on the throttle only front tires spinning followed by a message on the dash " AWD temporarily disabled" which according to the manual means its over heated. Perblue
It's likely not overheated. You didn't post year and miles but the ptu can out right fail, have a bad sensor, uneven worn tires, etc that can cause a message like that. You can try a scanner but you'll likely have to take it to a shop.
