Chip Mason
Hi I just joined the forum so I hope I am in the right place to have an issue I’m having answered. I just bought a used 2011 Ford Edge Sport with a 119,000 miles on it and the vehicle drives like it’s brand new other than one issue I’m having. When I’m on the interstate the Edge will have a slight shutter in the steering wheel and if I apply the brakes it will shake pretty bad plus the power seems affected slightly. If I pull over and turn the Edge off and then back on again the issue immediately disappears. Took it in to the dealership on Friday and brakes and rotors check out fine plus it has brand new tires. Sometimes this issue won’t happen at all. Of course it didn’t happen when I test drove it. Some say it’s a rotor issue when they heat up but to me I would think it would be a more constant issue. It will brake normally any other time and I don’t think it’s the rotors because there is a slight power drain like the motor is struggling a little bit but after I pull over and restart the issue goes away. I had the dealership do a complete diagnostic and nothing came up. Could this be a software issue or the computer needing an update? I asked them to do this and they didn’t do it. All they did was unhook the battery which took care of my audio and temperature control issues. I understand it’s an older vehicle and may not be perfect but to me the issue just seems odd and inconsistent. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Chip Mason
I forgot to add that there are no faults coming up and no check engine or other lights coming up when the issue happens
enigma-2
Did the shop check the power steering system? Perhaps a PS flush. (Because it resets when you restart the car, eliminates brake rotors and bearings). As you just bought the car, check to make certain the the plugs have been changed (overdo), tranny drained and refilled and coolant changed.
Chip Mason
I plan on taking it in for the 120,000 mile service in the next couple of weeks. The shop was supposed to do a complete look over and diagnostic and they did say everything checked out except for needing a coolant flush. I am taking it back to the place I bought it from Monday to have them look at it
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Do you have AWD? def check the PTU and RDU fluid level and condition. Check codes to see what might be set. Could be trans related, or may just need new coils/plugs. Changing fluids as mentioned above is also a top priority. Note color/level/condition of each one. Sounds like an electronic issue to me a la throttle body, but let's see ... Edited September 27, 2020 by WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Chip Mason
Yes it’s AWD and the dealership checked all the fluids and said everything is ok and checks out. Coolant flush is all I need to do right now. No codes are showing up at all and no fault lights come on when this issue happens. I also think it may be an electronic issue or possibly the brake booster going bad but the dealership found nothing wrong
Chip Mason
Ok I think I’ve figured it out as to what’s going on. I believe it’s the Advanced traction control acting up. The warning light came on today as I was headed home and I could definitely feel some power loss a little bit. The vehicle didn’t shake when I hit the brakes but in the manual it says it will do that if something is wrong. I’m taking it back to where I bought it tomorrow so hopefully they will remedy the issue and not try to screw me over and charge me since it happened the day I bought the vehicle. It was sold as is no warranty but I feel like they should fix it on their dime since they sold it to me with this issue. I just wished the issue would have happened on the test drive so I would have known up front
