LostInTennessee
2015 SEL 2.0L Turbo 117,000 miles This has happen twice, the first time the radiator fan continued to run at high speed after the engine was turned off and ran the battery down, had to jump off. Car was ok, i.e. problem didn't return. Then yesterday the same thing happened and I disconnected the battery and the fan whet off, but connecting the battery again starter the fan running. Left the battery disconnected over night and reconnected the battery in the morning and the fan DID NOT START. . Checked the relayes (32,38,39) and they seemed to be OK. After several trips today, still seemed to be OK. I will pull the relays one at a time to see which one is closed. Any suggestions? WWWPerfA_ZN0W
First time I have heard of this issue on a similar vehicle. But usually means the fan control module has failed, and it is time to replace the fan assembly. May be a short in the fan motor as well. Is the fan noisy? There is an SSM for this: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1G2gSkgUSAREfsUgoYPasDAuitNEkvnZX/view?usp=sharing A failing battery MAY cause this as well, but I don't see how. Worth a check tho. Your disconnection of the battery overnight also a) reset the pcm, and b) allowed the pcm to relearn the battery.

If you're suspecting relays, it won't be closed all the time as the issue is intermittent. You could try to swap the relay with another one of the same rating and see if the issue changes.
LostInTennessee
I will swap relats today, I think I have some out of wrecks. (problem has not returned).
LostInTennessee
Solved (maybe) When it happened again, I felt each relay (32,38, and 39) and all where warm BUT relay 39 was hot. I removed 39 (fan stopped) and moved the relay in 38 to the 39 slot and the fan stayed OFF. Replaced the bad relay with a new one and all is well (so far - 6 day ago).
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Nice work. But remember, the relay may be a symptom of the fan/module having a problem. Fingers crossed the relay is a longterm fix tho
LostInTennessee
Ok, so it is not fixed or a different problem has arisen. For a couple of months or so all was OK. Then it started to overheat. Quick look under the hood showed neither fan was running. Relays (32, 38, 39) seemed to be OK (not 100% tested). ' Note: pins 3 is output on relay location #3 and 5 output relay location #1. Fan controller relay #3, has 0V at pin 5, this suggest that fuse F59 is open. But 12V from the battery to pin 5 turns on fan motor #2 so motor is OK On fan controller relay #1, pin 3 has 12V, AND when 12V from the battery is jump to pin 5on relay #1 the fan does not run suggesting fan motor is bad. Fuse F59 is located under the fuse/relay box. Looking at owners manual, it says to release the two latches, located on both sides of the fuse box. I can find the one on the left (standing on the driver side) but not the right side. Where is the right hand latch ???

WWWPerfA_ZN0W
have you checked the fan relays?
Tar Heel
I am having this same issue with my 2015 Ford Edge Titanium. I am a woman who has no knowledge or the ability to work on cars. Did you ever determine the issue with the fan and how to fix it? I would like to go to a repair shop with a little knowledge of the situation. Thanks! Highlander
I have a 2016 Ford Edge and I am having the same issue. The fan is still on when my car is off. The dealer had me replace the fan last in Oct 2023 and I keep having the same issue. I already took the car back and it so happens that when I turned off the car at the dealer the fan turned off too. Now it is happening again.

Marco
In my case (same symptoms), definitely diagnosed as a bad relay (stuck/welded closed/on). This is a common failure mode for relays in general. I disassembled the bad relay to see firsthand. The corroded contact with charred carbon deposits confirms the failure mode. The new/shiny/clean contact is an example of an unused contact surface. BTW, the Ford OEM part has been upgraded since 2017 and is rated for 40amps. Beware aftermarket parts lacking a rating or possessing a lower rating, e.g. “25 amps”. Edited October 4 by Marco 2
