Gadgetjq
This item has been added to the Gadget Edge Mods Page: https://www.gadgetjq.net/edge/forscan/forscan.html#lgate Toggle The Liftgate Kick Sensor Off/On There seems to be a love/hate relationship with the liftgate kick sensor. Many love it for the convenience of being able to open or close the hatch with an easy foot movement toward the bumper. It's usually the 'close' part that some don't care for, especially when the liftgate tries to close while a human is leaning into the cargo compartment. It's doing that because the sensor (mounted under the bumper) thinks it sees a kick when it might simply be a normal foot movement. If that happens to you and you have a Gen2 Edge (2015-) the sensor can be turned off. To make the change, start FORScan and navigate to the BdyCM Module Configuration (not AsBuilt) and scroll down to "Hands Free Liftgate". Click twice on that item and you'll see a box that lets you Enable or Disable the feature. Click Disable then save it. You'll hear the familiar relay clicking from under the dash, your lights will flash and...you're done! Try the kick sensor. If the change has been successful it won't work (until you turn it on again) but the open/close buttons on the liftgate still function normally. Cheers! 2FAST4U
I have the liftgate sensor on my Edge and it never came down while I was loading (or unloading) some stuff in the vehicle... It's funny that Ford spends a lot of money to come up with more improvements (like the liftgate kick sensor, the start&stop feature, drl's, etc...) and folks here do everything they can to turn them off!... I paid for these options so I want to benefit from them, not them turn then off! Claude.
onyxbfly
I'm surprised that one has to use FORScan to disable the kick sensor. It should be readily accessible.
handfiler
This was a programmable option on my Sorento. Its odd that Ford/Lincoln doesn't offer it. On the other hand I've never had an issue with the lift-gate closing on me while loading/unloading. This might be more of an issue for people with...... Rolim
My Edge 2008, has a problem closing, when I press the button nothing happens, I looked at the manual but I didn't understand how to redo the reprimand.
SidneyAks
I just purchased a 17 edge sport, and in the process of doing so have added a hitch. I unplugged the sensors, but since then have realized for the week or two I had it, I was using the crap out of the kick sensor. I'd like it to be toggleable a little more conveniently than digging out a laptop or plugging in the switch. In my search i found later models do have the kick sensor as an option in the settings in the instrument cluster. Given that there appears to be a software switch for this, is it possible that there is also a software switch to show that option in the IC on earlier years? WyoEdge
I have had it with the tailgate closing if I am behind the Edge for too long. Even just hooking up the trailer it closes. I need to turn it off. or disable it. Anyone know of an easy way to do it. Thanks Tim
Chipster
Tim; I found that if I moved the FOB far enough from the hitch / trailer when I unhitched the trailer I didn't have that problem. I lay the FOB in the floor of my boat before I fool with the lights, chains, & the un-hitching of the trailer.

You would have to test different settings in FORScan to see if you can get the toggle switch back. Unfortunately I don't have a power liftgate to test with. Carhopper
I just unplugged the 2 small connectors shown here on the sensor coming from the pickup devices. The system still works with every other button and release.
