Parking brake limited function

Need some thoughts, got the dreaded warning messages on the dash about parking brake malfunction after driving in the rain today. So far I have a DTC, C2007. That's the right actuator. I attempted to put the vehicle into service mode, but that is not working. It is not the body to motor harness as it works on the driver side actuator and it's not the passenger actuator itself, as I removed it and tested it on the driver side and the actuator cycled perfectly. I assume this means there is a break in a wire somewhere between the driver and the passenger actuator. I will do some more digging tomorrow, but a couple jumper wires may be made and installed so I can get it back on the road. Hard to see how the wiring is routed as it looks to go up into the body on both sides, so I may remove the spare and see what I can see. Anyone have this dtc and the harness and actuator are fine?

Any reason to not suspect the wiring that goes to that specific side, like has been the case with most of the above posters to this thread? I assume that if you find an issue you can temporarily patch it but getting a new one and watching how it is routed seems to be the way to go.

I would still suspect the harnesses that go to the EPB motors.  The wiring doesn't always break in a visible way, from the checks I performed on mine, they were broken within the wire jacket and cracked within the protective loom.  They can make and break the connection intermittently since the break within the wire jacket, the wiring is still very close together and can reconnect from simply being bent slightly in the right direction.  This type of break can also be the cause of a fault coming and going at random.  Not that the wiring couldn't be failed within the main harness in the vehicle, its just not likely.  I've also seen this type of failure in the front camera harness.

Hello all. This is kind of a dead thread but I figured I’d post what I’ve found given this happened to me on my MKX. Turned out to just be the wiring harness from the vehicle to the parking brake motor. The failure message was intermittent as some on here also had. Would come on and go away and so on. Scanner displayed 2 codes in ABS module. One for parking brake malfunction and the other for left parking brake motor. For some reason the wiring in these harnesses break inside the wiring loom. See attached. This is what was found inside the wiring loom, makes sense as to why it was failing lol. Not sure how this happens but seems to be common on edges and MKX. Easy repair, around 60$ CAD per side for the new harnesses. Odds are pretty good you don’t need new actuators when this happens, especially if it is intermittent. The abs module stop seeing the motor due to the wire break or almost break which causes the code. This warning self clears when connection reestablished which is why it will go away. Codes with still be logged but light is off. If you have this problem unplug and check the harness (2 wires) for continuity between each end (if you have a multimeter). Resistance should be very low like 0.1 ohms maybe 1ohm but anything higher or and OL reading the harness is nfg and needs to be replaced. Something to try before shelling out to a dealer for some parts you may not need and at an inflated cost.

Similar issue for my 2017 Edge Titanium. I had a break in the yellow wire (passenger side) but my parking brake still worked and got no OBD error code. All I had were the warnings on the dash of limited functionality, needing service, red error code and the yellow error icon. Guessing the yellow is ground and the unit was still able to operate as it’s grounded via the bolts.

It had somehow corroded in that spot circled red in the pic, even though the wire wrapping and protection around there was in perfect shape. I trimmed it, soldered a bridge and taped it back up. Works for now but I expect in the future will need a proper replacement. The cable is around $35 at the ford dealership here.

It’s good to attempt a cable replacement yourself before paying $1k+. Hopefully your actuator is in good shape and doesn’t need replacement too.  Cables are super easy to get to if you take the wheel off.
