08fusiondriver
Hello. First, I need to say that I am a Fusion driver visiting the board. Even though I own a Fusion, I really do like the Edge and think it is a great car :D What I have is an audio question and figured I would try posting it here because it seems like there is more of a discussion here in previous posts about my topic than there is at the Fusion board. I was actually reading a previous post about replacing a normal stereo with the oem navigation unit http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?showtopic=1181 . However, I still have some questions about doing this and I am hoping you guys can help a fellow Ford owner out I am thinking about replacing my 6 speaker premium stereo with the navigation unit. My car is an 08 with Sync. First, should I try to only get an 08 navigation unit or will an 07 work too? Second, does it matter if it from an Edge, Explorer, Expedition, etc? Third, do I really need to get the unit reprogrammed to my car specifically or will it really work "plug and play"? It seems like from past posts some people have been able to just install it and go and not worry about reprogramming. But, if it necessary for me to reprogram the unit, how do I do it? Also, do I need to do anything special to keep my Sync working properly? Any help is really appreciated! Thank you!

I bought my nav unit on ebay and installed it. Installing it is very easy and took about 10 minutes. you have to install the attena for the nav. As for the 07 or 08 for sync, I'm not sure but i would stick with the 08 just to be safe. I know sync is a seperate module but i don't know for sure if any radio will work. YOu will need to have it programmed. I did my own as I am a ford Tech but any good dealership should be able to do it for you. I got mine from an 08 and mine is an 07 and some of the options may have been different, but programming fixed that. If you can get one from the same car as yours you may not need to programm it. Hope that helps some.

I would love to find a navigation unit from a Fusion, but they seem hard to find
druck52
Thanks druck! What do you think would happen if I didn't reprogram it? Also, how hard is it to reprogram it? Does it have to be done by a Ford technician? I would love to find a navigation unit from a Fusion, but they seem hard to find Mine would not work because it didn't detect the wheel speeds. You will know right away if it needs to be programmed. If you plug it in and it works you should not have anything to worry about. It does have to be done by a ford tech. You actually have to upload the information from another car with the nav to our scan tool(IDS) and then download it to your car. If you can't find one from a fusion one from an edge with sync should work, just might need to be programmed. The dealership will probably charge you an hour of time. gary712
if you want to install nav radio in an 08 that has sync the nav radio MUST be from an 08 which has the protocall built in for sync. the 08 radios have the chrome around the round knobs and have a phone button where the older models have a mute button. also the steering wheel controls for the radio have to be replaced with the one made for nav radio and sync. the new sw switch will NOT have an OKAY button on the switch. also new wires have to be run from the clock spring (steering wheel control) to the radio.if the nav radio did not come from an edge with the same equipment as your edge (audiophile, reverse sensors, dvd, sat radio) then it will have to be reprogrammed for it to work like it came from the factory. Zixxer
Can anyone tell me where or what is the clock spring switch I need to run the two wires to the radio? I've finally got the wiring diagrams but I've looked all over the steering column and there are a few plugs...is there someone that can better describe exactly where the clock spring is located? Thanks
