MikeRush
Tons of posts about our brakes...... bad booster..... bad master cylinder...... but I haven't seen anyone talk about my issue. I lose my pedal "only" when the system wants to activate ABS. If my wheels lockup on sleet or ice, or if I am on the brakes and hit loose stones or potholes, I lose the pedal. It has happened several times now (I bought the vehicle early last year). It self corrects by the time I get it to the dealers, and of course, they are unable to duplicate the problem and do nothing. No ABS codes. It happened last Saturday on my way into work. In the past I would have gotten back into the car after work and everything would be fine, this time it was still there. Yesterday.... today.... it's still there. I saw the Carfax report and it was in and out of the dealer multiple times for "brake service" and I was told the booster was replaced. I just thought the previous owner was riding them and going through pads.. It wasn't until it first happened that I looked into it and found it to be a pretty high incident issue. Anyone ever have to have the ABS unit replaced, and if so, was it because of this and did it fix it? Thanks, Mike
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Sounds like air in the ABS system. Had it bled?
MikeRush
I don't know about that. I could understand spongy pedal "while" in ABS mode if air was trapped in the HCU, but because it comes back to normal on it's own, without rhyme or reason, I suspect the answer is a sticky solenoid in the HCU. I finally found someone who agrees with me and made a Youtube video about my exact issue.

IslandGal
Hi there, I have a 2013 and same thing happened to my brakes last week. Thought it was brake booster, took it to Ford dealership and turned out to be the ABS unit which needs to be replaced to the tune of $1500!! I just got the same diagnosis on my wifes 13, but the quote was $2,000! Told him no way, I would trade and get rid of. I had first brought this pedal to the floor to them back in Dec 19, when the car was under ESP. Service writer is "looking into what can be done to assist at this point!" since there is a paper tray via emails. I dont understand why there was now ABS light?
