sblasl
Hi Folks, Just purchased a 2011 Edge Sport. When the backup camera engages, the video on the screen is upside down (inverted). Every thing else is displayed correctly. Anyone have any thoughts on what is going on here and is there anything that I can do to resolve this without taking it to the Ford dealership? Thanks Edited June 10, 2019 by sblasl Add photo

omar302
The camera is probably on its way out. Changing it is the only long run solution.

The picture displayed is just fine, it is just upside-down
omar302
That's what I remember. The only issue that might be fixable on a rear camera on the Edge was the disappearing guide lines, for which a calibration of the module would be required by a dealer or using ForScan.

sblasl
Is it possible to unscrew the housing, I think there are 2 screws and flip the module?
omar302
As far as I know, the camera only goes in one way.
candurin
It may have been replaced with a non-ford (non-oem) camera. This has been a reported issue with 3rd party replacement cameras.
factor99
My 2011 has done that about once a year since new. II is the right way around when I restart the vehicle. I consider it due to flaky Ford engineering.
chefduane
Has anyone found a source for a camera that works that is not the $350 Ford OEM camera?

Thanks The exact same thing happened on my 2011 MKX and unfortunately the only solution was to bring it to the dealer to have the camera replaced... Claude. Eric in California
I purchased my 2013 Edge “used”, from a Ford dealer. There were a few undisclosed problems right from the start, such as a driver side seat and/or motor that had been replaced (that to this day does not raise or lower each left and right side at the same time) and believe it or not a chip in the front window they had hidden under a “For Sale” price sticker! Both things went unnoticed until several days after having driven off the lot. When these issues were brought up to the Service Dept., I was quoted how much they would charge me to fix it (not replace at their expense!). It made me extremely unhappy with them, but I believed it was my problem, caveat emptor, etc. A short time later, the backup camera went out, glitching at first by sometimes working, then occasionally working, then not working at all. I took the car in again to the dealer where I was told “Yeah, sometimes they go out”, and I purchased a new replacement camera. Not cheap, but my car was still new to me and I wanted it to work. The replacement camera has now gone out, doing what the first one did; giving me a message that the “camera (is) not available”, like it had somewhere better to be! Recently the camera has come back, from wherever it went, but the image is upside down! A little research and I find this Happens All The Time to the Ford Edge. I don’t want to buy another camera from them that will just crap out in the near future. Thinking of sending this story to my local news channel and see if they find it interesting. Why hasn’t Ford been called to task for this common repeat problem? And, why should I keep making them richer for a shoddy design on their part? gonesail
if image is upside down you probably need a new camera. i bought one from Amazon .. for my 2012 edge. it is so clear and better than the original. pain in the butt install. make sure all contacts are clean and sealed. still working after 1.5 years. i agree the camera should have been simple plug and play install .. but it is not. Haz
@Eric in California: Ford and Motorcraft replacement parts carry a 24-month/unlimited mileage warranty, which includes labor cost... Print the below-attached PDF document and take it with you to the Ford dealership that installed the now-faulty replacement camera -- if that action occurred within the 24-month warranty period. Good luck! Ford-Motorcraft Service Parts Warranty Flyer.pdf Edited August 16 by Haz
