Backup Camera Picture Upside Down

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks,

Just purchased a 2011 Edge Sport. When the backup camera engages, the video on the screen is upside down (inverted). Every thing else is displayed correctly. Anyone have any thoughts on what is going on here and is there anything that I can do to resolve this without taking it to the Ford dealership?

Thanks

Take it back to who you bought it from....they may have repainted the tailgate and some how installed it upside down..... thats just a shot in the dark

Vehicle is in immaculate condition with no accidents and no "repainting".

The exact same thing happened on my 2011 MKX and unfortunately the only solution was to bring it to the dealer to have the camera replaced...

  • 5 years later...

I purchased my 2013 Edge “used”, from a Ford dealer. There were a few undisclosed problems right from the start, such as a driver side seat and/or motor that had been replaced (that to this day does not raise or lower each left and right side at the same time) and believe it or not a chip in the front window they had hidden under a “For Sale” price sticker! Both things went unnoticed until several days after having driven off the lot. When these issues were brought up to the Service Dept., I was quoted how much they would charge me to fix it (not replace at their expense!). It made me extremely unhappy with them, but I believed it was my problem, caveat emptor, etc. A short time later, the backup camera went out, glitching at first by sometimes working, then occasionally working, then not working at all. I took the car in again to the dealer where I was told “Yeah, sometimes they go out”, and I purchased a new replacement camera. Not cheap, but my car was still new to me and I wanted it to work. The replacement camera has now gone out, doing what the first one did; giving me a message that the “camera (is) not available”, like it had somewhere better to be! Recently the camera has come back, from wherever it went, but the image is upside down! A little research and I find this Happens All The Time to the Ford Edge. I don’t want to buy another camera from them that will just crap out in the near future. Thinking of sending this story to my local news channel and see if they find it interesting. Why hasn’t Ford been called to task for this common repeat problem? And, why should I keep making them richer for a shoddy design on their part?

if image is upside down you probably need a new camera. i bought one from Amazon .. for my 2012 edge. it is so clear and better than the original. pain in the butt install. make sure all contacts are clean and sealed. still working after 1.5 years. i agree the camera should have been simple plug and play install .. but it is not.

@Eric in California: Ford and Motorcraft replacement parts carry a 24-month/unlimited mileage warranty, which includes labor cost...

Print the below-attached PDF document and take it with you to the Ford dealership that installed the now-faulty replacement camera -- if that action occurred within the 24-month warranty period.

Good luck!
