Towing RV?

Recommended Posts

I have a 16 Edge Sport. I know the rated towing capacity but was reading in Europe is often much higher as here often used to upsell. I am looking at a Rubicon Toy Hauler that is 6500lbs (dual axle) is there any chance I can tow this without destroying my beloved edge? I see many similar sized suvs that can.

From what I can tell the UK version has a 2 tonnes = 4000kg = 4409lbs rating. The hitch itself is only rated for 3500-4500lbs depending on which one you get so you would be stretching it 187% more than what it was rated for.  Even then tongue weight for that trailer looks like it's 800+ lbs. I would not tow it.

Curious if you ended up towing a smaller hauler or not?  I too am wondering what a "safe" tow capacity would be a 16 Sport with the class 3 hitch added.

European Edges can be equipped with diesel engines.  That may be at least 'part' of the reason for the increased rating.
