2FAST4U
Is there a way to have the "WAZE" application in my Android phone to appear and work on my '16 Edge's navigation screen? Thanks, Claude.
akirby
Only by using Android Auto. iPhone users can do it via applink

You can use Apple Carplay on your Sync 3. You would need to update your Sync 3 firmware. (if you haven't already done so.) You also need to change your USB media hub. You can use Apple Carplay to mirror Waze from your iPhone to your sync 3 display. The below video is for a F150, but the same info applies to your edge. Here is a video illustrating using Waze on Carplay via iPhone on Sync 3 If you have an Android phone plug it into your USB hub to engage Android Auto. Once your phone is connected just follow the prompts to engage. See the link below. Apple Carplay Sync 3 Instructions

2FAST4U
Thanks "onyxbfly". I watched the ANDROID video but right at the beginning, it says that "owners of 2016 models with SYNC 3 are required to perform a software upgrade" …now where and how do I do that?? I checked in my car earlier today and it says that I have "SYNC 3 version 1.0 ". Is that good? Claude.

candurin
You need to upgrade to at least firmware version 2.2. The most recent is 3.0. it doesn’t matter if you upgrade firmware first or install the new AA/CP USB hub first.
2FAST4U
Well I tried numerous times to download the update for the firmware and I never was able to make it work. I have absolutely ZERO knowledge in computers so I'll try asking my dealer to help me… As it is right now, I'm "back to square one". Claude. 2FAST4U
"onyxbfly", my dealer told me the same thing about replacing the usb ports. He ordered the parts for me but I'm still wondering why does that thing need to be changed?? He also told me --> to be sure the USB drive is not password protected and can hold at least 32GB of data. Well that might be one of the reasons why it didn't work as there was some other stuff on my usb drive but mostly because it had a capacity of only 16GB… So I'm going to buy a bigger usb drive and try again. I'll post the results soon... Claude.
candurin
16gb is fine. Just make sure your format it to fat 32. Then make sure you have the proper root directory structure. Meanjng, make sure the main files are directly unzipped (uncompressed) to the usb drive itself. it may take 10-15 for the system to recognize the update. Leave the car running (in a safe place) for 30-40 min and the update should run and complete itself. the reason for the new usb drive is that it needs to be CarPlay certified. Every manufacturer that offers the CarPlay upgrade must have a new USB hub installed. That’s not a ford requirement, rather an Apple one. Thanks " candurin" for your reply… I'm still going to buy a usb drive because the 16GB unit I tried to use is not even mine so I might as well buy my own (32 or 64GB). As for "unzipping" files, I'm not sure how to do this… I have two computers, a big "iMac" with "Safari" and a Toshiba laptop with "Windows 7" …which one should I use? And last, I don't have an iPhone but an Android powered phone (Huawei P20 Pro), so I guess it's not "CarPlay" I need but rather "Android Auto"… Claude. candurin
Ah. Too be honest, I’m not entirely sure if a new hub is needed for Android. I suspect that it may not be! ive only researched CarPlay when I did my upgrade. You can always try without the hub first and then add it if need be. I would use the windows machine for formatting the drive.
onyxbfly
I agree with Candurin. IIRC a new hub is not required for Android Auto. It is infinitely easier to format a disc on a windows machine. To format the drive all you have to do is insert the USB drive into any available USB port and right click on it. Then select format. Then Select FAT 32 and you are good to go. To extract the files, just right click on the .zip files and select extract to and then pick where you want them to go. Or you can right click on the .zip files and select open then windows explorer, that will open the .zip file and you can drag and drop the contents to your newly formatted USB drive. The extracted files should be the only thing on the USB Drive. HTH

Also, when you talk about "formatting", do you mean erasing everything on the usb drive?… I suppose it's not necessary if the usb drive is brand new and has never been used before?... ..and about "extracting" the files, does it have to be done while they're on my computer or once they've been transferred to the usb drive? Thanks, Claude.
2FAST4U
I went and bought a brand new 256GB usb drive, downloaded the update on it but (this is where everything comes to a stop) I cannot "unzip" the folders no matter what I try. I've tried with my iMAC home computer, I tried again with my laptop with "Windows 7" and last with my girlfriend's Apple laptop and it never worked, so I'm giving up and got an appointment at my Ford dealer in May and they'll try to help me...
