richy
I own a 2007 Ford Edge SEL and have had the same exact problems.. My EDGE A/C blows cold as hell but it takes a while. What I have noticed is that the Driver and Passenger only have 4 vents total... The Passenger vents always blow harder and more efficiently than my driver vents.. I have cleaned the filter numerous times and that is always FORDS explanation.. A piece of paper was blocking the vent.. They have actually told me that 3 times.. Well guess what, there is nothing in my glove compartment... LOL!! I also see that the rear passengers only have those two small vents right behind the center console.. In my honest opinion I feel that the vehicle doesn't have enough vents to cool the entire vehicle off fast enough and that's why its taking time, coupled with not enough pressure. The vehicle is cold as hell once it cools down but it just takes FOREVER.. I live in Orlando Florida and on a HOT day, I can let the windows down and turn the A/C to full blast and recirc and it truly takes about 15 minutes to cool the entire vehicle down to were I am cumfy.. Now I am 6'0 260lbs and very athletic and can say that I love my house on about 70 degrees year round.. i truly love cold air so maybe its just me, but other Edge owners I have spoken too locally state that they wished there AC just had more pressure and hit them in the face. Hey bud, just a suggestion, but why don't you try having it on both floor and feet at first to double the air vents to get more a/c into the cabin? I hope that works for you. Eatinitup
Hey bud, just a suggestion, but why don't you try having it on both floor and feet at first to double the air vents to get more a/c into the cabin? I hope that works for you. Opening all of the vents would actually lessen the air flow. The blower only blows at one speed when on MAX A/C. So opening more valves would actually lessen the pressure and air flow. I did however, purchase a new cabin filter and it has seemed to of helped a bit. The filter was 27$ and DINGO and AKIRBY I believe were the ones to mentioned it. I think Arm and Hammer made it or something like that. I got it off Amazon and can look it up if anyone needs. Eatinitup
http://www.fram.com/...abin_air_filter Dingo found it, thats the one! I purchased that and installed it because I had the factory metal grill insert and it always was clogged with Dust and Lint! I don't know if the FRAM gave me better air flow but atleast I wont have to clean it so regularly!
Jim5506
The factory has put out two different "filters" on the Edge A/C. Some have a zig-zag paper filter element and some have a screen with a plastic frame. I cleaned the screen on my Edge A/C last month and it helped ari flow. If you have a paper filter, you need to check it every 3 months or so especially if you are in a dusty climate. My beef with the A/C vents is that they do not deflect the air upward enough. Hot air rises an I like to direct A/C air up towards the ceiling to displace the hotest air first. I have found that opening the moonroof rapidly sucks the hot air out, but creates road noise. Looking at the vents themselves, it appears there is a plastic extension below the bottom horizonal loover that might be clipped off to allow the vents to be directed upward a little more. I'll get a flashlight and do a closer inspection to insure that there is not something else at play, but I think that will allow me to direct the cooled air up to where the really hot air accumilates. Just looking at the vents the highest elevation sends air out of the vents at just barely more than the horizonal and cold air drops as it comes out of the vents anyway. Cindy
I have some information that might be of interest to anyone that has the cabin air filter. I have a 2008 ford edge with only 21,000 miles on it but decided it was time to change the cabin air filter. Purchased it at the Ford dealership and the service manager said he would replace it. When he took the glove box off, the cover and the filter, the filter was very dirty along with shredded pink insulation. His first comment to me was that a critter must have gotten in there. That was my thought at first since we live in the country although it is always garaged. Yesterday I started having a rather loud fan noise when the fan was on. I googled this and came up with the Edge Forum with comments about how to change the filter. We pulled it out last night again to vacuum since it was not done at the dealership. There were small bits of the pink insulation in the fan. We used a small type of dental mirror to look in there to make sure there were no more pieces left, it was clean. But in doing so we saw where the insulation came from. Ford lines the sides of the plastic glove box with this pink insulation. Evidentially the fan sucked the insulation onto the filter blocking air flow. We tried the fan before replacing the box and the noise was gone. Put it all back together with a clean filter and the air flow from the vents is unbelievable. I don't think I have had this much air flow for a few years. In answer to everyone's complaints about this issue, I highly suggest they check this filter or the screen that is on some of the vehicles without the filter. You will be amazed. We plan on taking some of the insulation back to the ford dealership to show them that that is what the pink insulation was rather than something from a critter. Good luck to everyone, hope you have the same positive results that I have. P.S. I just love the forum, it always helps with little problems. Eatinitup
I have actually been playing around with my 07 Edge as well and have stated in previous posts that my left driver vent blows air like crazy but the right driver vent is very weak. The passanger right and left vents will almost blow you out of the seat. I normally am the only person driving my Edge everyday since its a daily driver to and from work. I live in Orlando, so for those who are with me on the heat, you know it GETS VERY HOT in your vehicle when it sits in a parking lot for 8hrs a day. What I did last week to start playing with air vents was, "I Turnned the left Driver vent OFF" and the "Passanger Right Vent OFF" thus only the two middle vents were blowing.. HOOOOOOOOOOOLY SHIT!!! I can now cool my vehicle down in like 5 mins.. The vents near the windows, always blow good air but none of those ever hit me.. I feel like they are vents to cool down a WINDOW that is 5,000 degrees.. Now that they are closed, the two middle vents literally BLOW ME out of my seat @ 275lbs.. TRUE STORY!! I have since even opened the two window vents to 1/2 way open and the two middle vents still blow harder than they used too.. Now I have equal air flow in the vehicle and am very pleased with it. 11Edge
cb: I wasn't posting to be confrontational or disagreeable as I am in the same boat as those who have the issue. However, I find it VERY wierd that whenever the wife or I open the glove compartment, the air conditioning seems to blow better. It is as if the glove compartment is acting like an intake which allows more air to get pulled in. None of the other cars I have owned in the past have done this. I have brought it to the dealer's attention and they are perplexed as well. I am bringing it in this Saturday to have this and a few other things looked at. Have you had a chance to test the glove box theory yet? The cabin air filter is on the firewall behind the glove box. Opening the glove box allows more air flow. There are threads on this forum about dirty cabin air filters blocking the airflow so that the A/C wouldnt work right.
HackerF15E
Anyone know of any physical upgrades that can be made to the system? I figured that this many years down the line, someone would find a bigger fan or something to help it along. I was hoping that in subsequent model years, they'd fix the A/C problem, and that those improved parts from the 09, 10, 11, 12 model years would retrofit back into the '08. Also interested to know of any way to improve airflow to the back -- the kids barely get any airflow back there for themselves.
normcloutier
The 2013 rear vents can be closed by simply sliding the deflector over all the way. I'm not sure if this became available in this model year or not.
RJG
The AC on our 2012 Limited is fine......and we live in hot and humid Central Florida......where the humidity is about as high as the temp sometimes. A few years ago, a Ford vehicle we owned, had a page in the owners manual about how best to aim the AC vents. It instructed the user to NOT aim the vents directly on your body, but aim them is such a way as the side vents direct air down the side of the passengr compartment, and the middle vents direct air thru the middle of the passenger compartment. This way you get best circulation, and the return is designed as part of this system of air circulation. The design of our vents is in keeping with this idea. And that's how I adjust A/C vents on current Edge. Not on our bodies, but down the sides, and thru the middle. Then set it on auto....around 72-73 and set to recirculate. You could put it on max recirculate.....which immediately puts it on 60, but it's never necessary and we also live where it's hot. BTW....we also have a 2012 Honda, with an "ECON" button. When this is activated, it always keeps the AC in recirculate mode. This saves fuel, as well as being more efficient in cooling. It's easier and uses less energy to cool air that's already cool, than cool hot outside incoming air. If our vehicle wasn't cooling properly, the first place I would look W/B stopped up air cabin filter or low refridgerant.....correct amount of refridgerant is critical....not too much, not too little. It's so important, correct amount is listed under hood. Make sure radiator and condensor are free of debris....bugs, etc. This can block air flow. Next would check blend door operation....professional probably has to do this. Would not blame the design of the vehicle. If it's not cooling properly, somethings wrong. it's not difficult to check it out. Put on max, stick a thermometer in each vent and see what it's blowing. In hot climate.....under 55 at least. If air is cold on max, then check carefully the blend door operation. At sometime during this checking, make sure the pressure switch is operating correctly. Not rocket science. Joab Dellinger
We got our 2008 Edge in Feb. this summer I've been complaining constantly about the AC. In a way I was glad to see this thread so I know it's not an issue with ours.
ar152010
My 2002 Mercedes will literally freeze you out in 3-4 minutes. My 2008 Edge will eventually cool you down but the vents never ever get really COLD like other cars I've owned. Definetly inadequate air temp and flow. There's no excuse for this problem. Shame on Ford.
JOEHIO
I have no complaints with the A/C in my MKX. The only problem is when my wife is with me, and she raises her side to 74 or 76. She always say's, "what are you trying to do, hang meat in here?".

Twister
Just purchased a 2008 Limited and was reading the problems with weak blower conditions. Well gadzooks...just took out the glove compartment and low and behold........one service invoice...a payslip....two paper towels.....two empty envelopes...plus a dirty filter. Now seems like gale force winds out of vents. Thanks all for the excellent info!
