Sync 3

Recommended Posts

Hi all, great source forum for edges... I'm trying to upgrade my wife's Edge 2017 from the 4" display to the 8". I already know I need the Recessed Mount but I'm kind of confused with the ports behind the display.

Is this the correct display for sync 3?

Thanks!

If that date is correct, it can't be Sync 3. Sync 3 became available in 2016 model years. So the oldest manufacturing date can't be before 2015. Also, remember that you'll need the display & APIM. They are 2 different parts.

I don't recall someone doing this upgrade on the Edge, but there is a thread on it on the Fusion forums. Maybe it'll help.

Maybe he’s referring to MFT (Sync 2) ver. 3.x?

Either way, that is a MFT APIM only.  You do need the screen as well.

You can either upgrade to the newer SYNC 3 system or go with the older MFT (sync 2) system.  Installation is essentially the same.

That is definitely a possibility! I saw 4" to 8" screen and read Omar's reply and ran with the notion that he wants SYNC 3.

The APIM will be compatible.  You’ll still need the screen.

keep in mind, if you want navigation, you’re better off with a newer APIM as it will have “more recent” maps.  2018+ APIMs will also have the 1.5gb partition which will allow you to run Sync 3.2 and higher (it has a few more bells and whistles).

2016-2017 APIMS have the 1.0gb partition and can only run Sync 3, version 1.0 - 3.0.

it doesn’t make a huge difference; just creating awareness.
