You can also safely, while going slowly, swerves right to left at night and see them turn with the wheels.  The do not move under a certain MPH so you can't just try it while stopped.  At first I never noticed mine working until I made sure I could see them when trying that, then I always noticed them.  Also the beam pattern should be more focused than the standard headlights.  At least on the Focus ST they were that way.  One of the first things I noticed driving the Edge was that the beams were wider, I only got the 400a package on mine.
