I live in California and frequent Lake Tahoe in the winter. This is the 3rd winter with my Sport. No complaints last 2 winters. This year, when leaving the ski resort, I lossed complete traction at about 10-15 mph. A few cars in front of me seemed to have issues as well while others had none. It was unusually cold that day around 26 deg. Yeah I know but that is cold for CA. When researching this, my understanding is that you can have the best AWD system but snow rated tires are critical to traction. My understanding is this means the tires remain soft at lower temperature. So, I'm thinking that since it was colder than usual and my car had been idle all day, was the root cause considering that I have the tires which came stock; Scorpion Verde All Season. Those who live in much colder climates with snow, what is your feedback on this and how do you handle it? Is there something with the Edge Sport other than tires which make it not so snow worthy? I had a Subaru Legacy for 6 years prior and used to plowing through anything. My lease is up in 5 months and I would like to lease the 2019 ST. Has anyone ever leased and negotiated getting different tires put on? I also have to consider I have to worry about snow maybe 10 days out of the year. If I get strictly snow tires, then they will wear fast in normal driving. Then again, I'm leasing so only need tires to last me 3 yrs or 36K miles. jamie1073 Posted January 15, 2019 Report Share Posted January 15, 2019 I just got mine and it has the Hankook Ventus S1 Noble2's on it. They are UHP All season and here in Upstate NY, almost Canada, we get 130+ inches of a snow a year and so far they are fine. Probably not in 2 years since they probably only get about 20K miles out of them but who knows. candurin Posted January 15, 2019 Report Share Posted January 15, 2019 I just put Goodyear Assurance Weatherready tires (20”) on my 2012 AWD. and had my first ride in about 4” of wet snow. I only had 16 miles on the tire (snowed the day after I got them put on). Worked perfectly with no slippage. But, they were literally brand spanking new.
