Thanks!  I'm excited to own it!

One of the things which drew me to this forum was a thread pertaining to FORScan mods for the Edge.

I come from a forum for the Ford Escape.  Long story short, I bought a lemon Escape which I tried to love.  The FORScan mods for the Escape were probably the most fun thing to learn about over there.  And later, when the real problems began with my Escape, my FORScan experience paid great dividends in pulling codes and Mode6 (freeze frame) data to screenshot and provide to the dealership.  After the first time I was told, "We couldn't find any codes, please bring it back the next time it throws a code," I quickly realized I had to become my own advocate, as nobody else was going to help me out when the vehicle tossed codes at night and on the weekends when the dealership was closed.  Worst of all the Escape would only throw PENDING codes, so as soon as the Escape was turned off, the codes were lost.  In the end, the dealership ended up breaking tons more things while trying to fix simple items.

Example:

Dealership - We replaced your misfiring engine with a new crate engine from Ford.

Me - Awesome! But what's this new popping sound in the front driver's side suspension?

D - We don't know...

M - And what's up with this trim over the driver's wheel being broken?  See how it's sticking out now?  Look at the other vehicles on your lot, they're not broken like that.  And, where did this bolt I found come from?  It was literally laying on the garage floor when I backed out the other day...

D - We don't know, but we'll fix those problems.

...

M - You fixed the trim, thank you.  But, the popping sound still exists, and when I popped the hood the other day to refill my windshield washer fluid, I noticed you all lost a few cowling clips when you worked on replacing my engine...

D - We can't replicate the popping sound.

M - Ok, well, here's a Google Drive link to no fewer than 60 videos from my dashcam illustrating the popping sound over the past day.

D - Hmm, we'll look into that.

...

D - We replaced the strut as per FoMoCo, hoping that'll fix the popping sound.

M - Thanks!  But that didn't resolve the popping.  Here's a new Google Drive link with at least 40 new videos over the course of the weekend to show the popping sound still exists.  And the vehicle misfired again.  Here's the Mode6 data and pending code I pulled since you all were closed when the Escape threw a code...

D - We'll look into all that.

...

D - We replaced the strut a second time, as per Ford.  But it seems there's a problem.  Your wiper arm is chewing up your cowling.  Don't worry, we've ordered a replacement cowling under warranty.  It'll be here in a few days.

M - Umm, hmm...  Okay...

(I took the vehicle to another dealership to have it looked at, and they said the original techs failed to mount the wiper motor as it should have been mounted, and the original dealership "jacked up your sh*t." Their words, not mine, and the blatant honesty was SO VERY REFRESHING.  Got that in writing, but with more "appropriate" verbiage.)

...

D - We replaced the cowling.

M - Great, but what about the popping sound?

D - It still exists?

M - Yes.  Have yet another Google Drive link with another 50 videos over the course of a few days, illustrating the popping sound.  As before, I've narrated each clip with what I was doing with the steering wheel and accelerator pedal when the popping happened.  I'll email it to you just as I have done with the other links...

D - Okay.

M - And what about the cowling clips you all have lost last time you worked on my Escape?

D - We'll replace them.

M - And what about this new bolt I found just laying in the fiber board under the vehicle?  Where did this one come from?

D - We don't know.

M - If Ford thought this bolt was unimportant, like the other one I found on my garage floor, surely the would omit it themselves to save a few pennies.  But they included it, so they must have thought it was an important fastener...

D - (Blank stare)

M - I'll leave the vehicle here.  Please stick me in another loaner.

...

D - We replaced the lower control arm, as per Ford.

M - Great!  Now, next question.  The 2018 Escape loaner you put me in was able to play my thumb drive in the USB port located under the arm rest.  My Escape cannot do so.  Can we look into this?

D - Sure.

...

D - Tech says the USB port under the arm rest is for charging only, and they changed the purpose of that USB port with the 2018's.

M - I respectfully declare bullsh*t.  Let's talk with your tech together, please.

D - I'm with you because you're the customer, let's talk with the tech together.

(Service desk guy and I talk with the tech.  Tech declares I'm wrong and stands his ground, since there are no other 2017's on the lot to compare with.  I sit down and compare schematics pulled by VIN for my 2017 and the loaner 2018, and I point out they are identical schematics, yet also quite vague as the USB cable is called out as being one black wire, when they actually contain four individual wires - a positive, a negative, a "data+," and a "data-."  Service desk guy gets the feeling I'm actually right and authorizes the swapping of my 2017's parts with parts from the 2018 loaner to diagnose what could be wrong with my 2017.  Tech says he doesn't wanna do this work, so a second tech does this swap work and discovers the Media Hub under my arm rest was screwed up.  Second tech puts everything back as it originally was for both vehicles, and orders me a new media hub, fixing the problem.  What the heck - now I'm playing technician, even more-so than pulling codes and Mode6 data?  Whatever, at least we're making headway...)

...

M - Now the transmission is making a whining sound and shifting hard.  Here's another Google Drive link with the video of it doing so.

D - We'll look into it.

M - Thanks.

...

D - We couldn't replicate the transmission noise issue, but the good news is you have a 5 year, 60,000 mile drive train warranty.

M - I'm grateful for the warranty, but that won't cover the inconvenience of being broke down on the side of the road and being without my vehicle yet again.

D - There's nothing we can do for you, even with the video.

M - Then, let's do a transmission fluid flush for preventive maintenance.  I'll pay for it out of my own pocket.

D - Okay, we'll get it done for you.

I'd just like to add that, my transmission never again shifted normally after that time it shifted rough and made a whining noise - not even after the flush I paid for.  Also, the dealership never discovered where those mystery bolts came from, nor did they ever replace any of the cowling clips - I had to pay for those clips out of my own pocket.  I bought a new vehicle in 2017 because I wanted a new vehicle - not a vehicle which had been wrenched on by who knows whom, an unknown quantity of times.

In the end, FoMoCo's buyback process for lemons, operated by the Ford RAV (ReAcquired Vehicles) Department, is totally stupid, and employs absolute agents of mediocrity who cannot tell the difference between a corn hole, and corn on the cob.  I had purchases I made be declined for reimbursement because of things like, "This eBay receipt says this item is for a 13 - 16 Escape, and you own a 17 Escape."  When I retorted the part number on the receipt cross references via Google with Ford's own website which says it fits a 13 - 19 Escape, they continued to decline reimbursement.  Other items were declined because they refused to acknowledge the Kuga is the overseas Escape, and despite being identical vehicles with differing engine offerings, "That part isn't even for your car.  We will not reimburse you for it."  Suffice to say, I never want to deal with those idiots ever again.

Anyhow, enough griping ... the FORScan mods for the Escape were awesome fun!  Making my vehicle do things which it wasn't supposed to do put a smile on my face.  Unrestricted fog light use (fogs + high beams), double-honk deletion (when I exited the vehicle with the IAK fob), Auto Stop/Start deletion, Global Window Open/Close with the IAK ... those were little, yet fun mods to perform.  Biggest complaint I had was, the known working mods for the Escape were few and far between, while it seemed other vehicles had been better figured out.

As I didn't have a ton of time to tinker and find more Escape FORScan mods due to life being what it is, and due to the dealership having my vehicle more this year than I did, I'm happy to escape the Escape chapter of my life and move onward toward the edge, with my new Edge.  And I'm really, really looking forward to more tinkering with FORScan and my Edge!

Welcome. That's quite the story on the Escape. Good deal you were able to get out of it.

BTW, if you do start deep diving into FORScan for the Edge, there is a room/thread set up just for that. Have you seen it? Might be kind of you to put any hacks you find there. Just for those (me included) that can't figure it out on our own.

Yep, spent this morning pouring over it!  Snagged quite a few things to test on my 2019.  Just grabbed my As Built Data from FoMoCo.  Perhaps this weekend I'll have time to spend comparing my ABD to the referenced information so I may figure out what matches up (to know what is easily done), and then go from there.

Thanks!
