trackeryak
This week I picked up an 07 Edge in Crem Brulee color. At Walmart last night someone either opened their door real hard or someone's side view mirror hit my passenger side, side view mirrow. The painted trim piece is fine but the black plastic trim on the side view mirror is cracked pretty bad on the bottom, on the back of the mirror. Is this piece something I can replace myself? trackeryak
Here's a picture of the cracked black trim on the back side of the mirror. The mirror still swivels fine but I want to replace this trim piece if I can.

Hi trackeryak. :D Both pieces are replaceable, but vary in price and difficulty. The painted piece can be popped off and replaced with a new one (you would need to purchase a replacement and have it painted). If you are talking about the black textured piece, I believe you will need to replace the entire mirror housing. More expensive to do. I would recommend trying to find the piece you need at a Salvage Yard. Good luck. :beerchug: PS - I replied above at the same time you were posting the pictures. You need to replace the mirror housing. Edited June 7, 2008 by bbf2530
trackeryak
Thanks for the reply. I'll be calling the dealer in the morning to see how much this will run me.
trackeryak
I called the dealer and the entire mirror needs to be replaced at a cost of $140. It comes needing to be painted but my painted cover is fine so I am going to use that on the new one. If the dealer installs it, that is an addition $82 so I'll probably just do it myself. trackeryak
I picked up the new side view mirror from the dealer this afternoon and installed it myself this evening. With my wife helping hold the new mirror in place when I tightened the nuts on the mounting bolts, installation of the new mirror took less than 5 minutes. I took off the small black inside trim on the door, inside of the side view mirror. That exposed the 3 mounting bolts and wiring harness, no need to remove the interior door panel. So I saved myself some money on the installation and couldn't be happier. Here is a picture of the mounting bolts and wiring harness once the interior trim piece is removed. There are two clips holding the trim piece in place, on the top near the right side and about in the middle. I worked my fingers under the trim piece on the dash side first and it popped right off - I was able to salvage the painted back cover and snapped it in place on the new mirror. Once I popped off the painted cover from the old mirror, I could see just how much the plastic housing was cracked. And the new piece installed, again it took less than 5 minutes, a very easy job. Once installed, I tested the power mirror and everything worked like new -
Grey
Good Job! Thanks for posting the pics. I hope that encourages others to tackle some of the less complicated jobs - and to share their ecperience. That's the stuff that makes this a great forum :happy feet: :happy feet:
