callatis
Hi, in May I purchased and I installed the Blackvue DR750S 2ch. Soon after that I replaced my battery. I got Kirkland #6, recommended by Costco for Ford Edge. 1000 Cold Crancking Amps, way better than the original one. Installing the dashcam I used the recommended Power Magik Pro Kit and I set the shut off power to 12V, as they recommended. The new dashcam owner was very happy but this happiness lasted only only one month when the Ford Sync started shutting down as soon as I turning off my engine, to preserve battery power. I turned off the Power Magic Kit, disabling the Parking mode. After paying around $600CAD for this toy and not being able to use the Parking Mode ... very disappointing. I fully charged the battery and testing the voltage 12h later, the voltage dropped from 12.7V to 12.12V The average power consumption of the dual lens Blackvue DR750S 2ch is between 300 and 350 milliamps (3.6-4.2 watts @12V). Costco is going to replace the battery for free but I am asking your advise, what to do in order to have the dashcam working in Parking mode? I really don't want to spend another $400 for CelinkNeo battery pack https://www.blackboxmycar.ca/collections/dashcam-battery-pack/products/cellink-battery-neo?variant=5288207024161 Edited November 23, 2018 by callatis
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Sorry to hear you are having trouble with the Blackvue. Regarding the battery: Are there any other accessories hotwired to the battery, or always on, in addition to the Blackvue? Did you allow time for the vehicle to learn the new battery? Typically letting the vehicle sit for 8+ hours undisturbed with all accessories off/disconnected is sufficient. SOMEtimes you actually have to reset the BMS manually. Do you drive enough to recharge the battery? Are you keeping track of charging behavior? I.E., is the alternator keeping up with the charge requirements? I would speak with Blackvue and see what the problem might be. If the wiring is doublechecked, then there should not be such a huge draw on the battery. BUT an AGM battery can handle it much better than an SLA battery ... as long as the vehicle sees enough drive time to fully recharge the battery. That is the key. I would get a Solar BA7 or BA9 and verify the condition of the battery and the alternator. Easy enough to test if the new cam is the cause for the V draw, pull the related fuse. HTH. Aside, copied from the linked NEO battery page: Quote Want even more battery life? Add the Cellink NEO Extended Battery Pack! Get up to 40 hours (up to 30 hours for the DR900S-2CH) of parking mode with a 2-channel dash cam, or up to 55 hours (up to 50 hours for the DR900S-1CH) for a 1-channel dash cam. Power Duration A Fully charged NEO can run a single camera for about 45 hours (up to 25 hours for the DR900S-1CH) while a dual channel system for about 25 hours (up to 15 hours for the DR900S-2CH) with it’s integrated 76.8Wh. However this is continuous run time, some cameras such as Blacksys and Thinkware have dedicated parking mode systems where it can run much longer than that. We have tested out and in an optimal situation the NEO was able to power a Thinkware F100 2 channel camera in a vehicle for 2 days before discharging while in parking mode. A Fully charged NEO can run a DR900S-1CH dash camera for about 25 hours while a dual channel system like the DR900S-2CH will be about 15 hours with it’s integrated 76.8Wh. A Fully charged NEO can run a DR750S-1CH dash camera for about 28 hours while a dual channel system like the DR750S-2CH will be about 18 hours with it’s integrated 76.8Wh. What's included? Cellink NEO Battery Pack Add-A-Fuse of your choice Power Input Hardwire Cable Power Input 12v Cigarette Plug Power Output Cable Of Your Choice 1 Year Hassle-Free Warranty User Manual Maybe just get a lithium jump pack instead? Much cheaper these days. I buy 20Ah jump packs from Amazon, you can check reviews for what you suits you. They have started coming out with direct 12V outlets these days, some even with a 12V to socket adapter included in the package. https://smile.amazon.com/BASAF-Starter-Portable-Battery-Booster/dp/B07F1QJNB9/ https://everydaycalculation.com/kwh-ah.php Edited November 26, 2018 by WWWPerfA_ZN0W Added link to Jump Starter on Amazon, as example of desired product
callatis
Hi, thanks for taking your time to reply to my concerns. I did not have the notification turned on. 1. Yes, I have a remote starter since I got the vehicle and I know that is another consumer. I have the remote starters on both vehicles and by themselves they were OK. Very possible together are too much. 2. I wasn't aware of this. 3. I drive 50 minutes each way for work and I also used the battery charger when I noticed the battery was not holding the charge. 4. The alternator supplies 14.41V Even with the new battery, the Power Magic Kit set to 12V is shutting down the camera as soon as I turned off the engine. I am afraid to set it to 12V anymore. I emailed back and forth with Blackvue but they were looking at the Power Magic Kit instead of the 340mA consume. I am upset they did not advertise the Parking Mode won't work unless you purchase an external battery.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Very strange to hear of this response from a company like Blackvue. Could be a holiday season thing too, I have noticed a pickup in such attitude lately. Is the alternator supplying constant 14.41V or does it vary at all? I assume you are referencing output at highway/cruising speed? The distances you drive - also assuming mostly highway. Around here going 10 miles in 50 minutes in rush hour is not uncommon LOL.
