KennyE
Hi. New to the forum and my '17 Titanium. My former vehicle had a way to turn on the rear camera, when you weren't moving of course. Is there a way to turn on the Edge's rear camera without putting it in Reverse? I don't see a camera "button" anywhere on the dash. I like to use the camera to ensure I've pulled far enough inside the garage ?. Not looking to engage while moving forward or anything like that. Would just like to turn it on manually for viewing behind me when in Park vs only in Reverse.
omar302
Not possible. But there is a "Delay" option for the camera if enabled through vehicle settings in the center screen will allow the camera to stay on after you shift out of reverse and into drive until your speed goes above about 5 mph. 1
KennyE
Well, darn it. And, hey, that might work. ? That little delay gives me enough time to view if I'm totally in the garage or not. Might be a usable workaround. Thanks.
ben senise
this is not a direct answer to your question, but more answer "thinking outside the box" answer. I used to use my rearview camera when i park in my garage to make sure i'm in far enough but want to leave as much room as possible between the front bumper and wall. here's a pic of what i put on the floor. i'm sure you can get them at many places. i got mine at Lee Valley for CAD15 which is about USD11-12. It's very precise and i've got it positioned so that there's only six inches or so between the rear bumper and garage door. i just pull in and the wheel stops in this thing. very easy and fast.
KennyE
Have thought of those for the home. Just sort of spaced on them. Will do some searching and see if we have them locally. Thanks for the idea!

FordGuy1
I positioned both of my vehicles in the garage at the proper distance from the back wall and then used string and plastic golfs ball tied at the proper level so that the ball hits the windshield of the vehicles. The string is tied to the ceiling rafters (in my case the frame of the overhead lights). Now when I pull in the vehicle and the windshield touches the ball I know when to stop. The problem I see in placing a board or other item on the floor is that when a vehicle is not in the garage and you are moving about it seems that you always hit the board and accidently move it out of place.

My Dad did that for my Mom. Think she still hit the freezer a few times. ? The floor plates I've looked all seem to have sort of sticky tape on them. Guess that is supposed to assist keeping them in place.
ben senise
i tried a few blobs of glue but nothing i had would stick to the plastic of that yellow thing i bought. It has holes in the corners so i drilled small holes in the concrete and put plugs and screws in to hold the thing down. so far, so good. KennyE
I was looking at this one. Although I could see how that tape might not hold forever on cold concrete.

Dogg
Here's an alternative, you may alter the wiring in the harness, to switch to continuous power (yellow wire) to the backup camera, and install a small switch. With this option, you may add a few more cameras to the setup Edited March 9, 2019 by Dogg
