Newedgeguy
Yesterday I took my '15 Edge SEL in for regular service (tire rotation and oil change) and got the good news the third brake light has some of the led's already burned out, some dim and some still working. Because it's all one plug and play unit it's about $300.00 to replace. I thought the tradeoff with led's was the higher expense balanced out with the long life of the led. I just hit the three year mark on August 31, 2018. I've got led flashlights from 10 years ago that I've replaced batteries on but not the led. Has anyone else had their led's in the third brake light fail that soon? Service guys told me this was the first one they have seen. Thanks for any help or advice. omar302
That's the first I heard of such a failure, but it is cheaper than that. https://www.ebay.com/itm/283057930124
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
On previous model years, all it has taken is to remove the liftgate trim panel, remove the two mounting screws and press in the tab to remove the high mount stoplamp assembly. Hopefully same for Gen 2. EDIT: Alas it is not. The rear spoiler has to be removed to replace the stoplamp Edited October 12, 2018 by WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Newedgeguy
Omar302 Thank you for the ebay link. The $300.00 price included labor from my local dealership. It just sucks when something like that fails that quick, but I guess there are lots of more expensive parts that I could have to replace . I know since i'm outside the warranty (I have 47K miles and my edge had its third birthday on August 31, 2018) it probably doesn't pay to try contact Ford but I would like to (politely ) tell someone at the blue oval what I think. Thanks for the help,

I didn't realize there was a screw from the inside; I took out the outside screws and yanked the light out, There was an insert in the light, which the inside screw went into, That stayed on the screw and came out of the light. I don't remember well, but it wasn't so difficult to get out and wouldn't have pulled so hard to risk breaking it (I figured the screws were already out, it must just be on a post or something...). To put it back, I just pushed it in as far as it would go to; I don't think it went all the way back in at first (the light seemed a bit pushed out in the middle), but think the pressure from the outside screws worked it back in. For my issue, I silicone glued the sprayer back in, it is still fine years later. Edited October 16, 2018 by factor99
