Power lift gate does not open all the way

Dont know, maybe the screw drive runs for a specific amount of time. It's the cylindars that lift the hatch to the full up position and hold it there.

I hit my head once, cussed at it and learned to duck after that.

Hit me once, shame on you. Hit me twice, shame on me.

Just looked at it again.

The screw drive runs continuously until the lift gate is all the way up or down.

Otherwise one could not reverse the movement in mid-air by hitting that rubber button in the lift gate handle.

I also removed that cover of the motor housing and it turns out that the motor is located way down in the rear fender and it looks like the adjustment, if there is any, is inside the motor housing.

The funny thing is, that after moving the gate several times it appears that it now opens all the way up, give or take half an inch. Go figure!

Thanks for all the input.

My forehead is slowly healing! B)

Although the title state "Power" Liftgate some of the comments aren't related to the power option.

Yesterday while the windshield installer was busy he ran the battery flat and all custom settings were lost and what I found today is the liftgate isn't lifting high enough and the isntructions in the Owners Manual aren't working for me.

I can move it up by hand with no resistance another 8" and hold the button until it chimes, but next time its opened it goes back to the previous too low position.

Anyone have any insight on what next to try?

How about...

Power Liftgate Initialization

Initialization

  1. Disconnect the battery or remove the RGTM fuse(s).

  1. NOTE: Remove the battery power from the RGTM for 20 seconds before entering initialization mode.

Wait 20 seconds and reconnect the battery or reinstall the RGTM fuse(s).

  1. If the liftgate is not already in the fully closed position, manually close and fully latch the power liftgate.
  1. Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear all fault codes for the RGTM .
  1. NOTE: If equipped, make sure the power liftgate system is turned ON in the message center before performing this step.

NOTE: If the power liftgate does not open during this step, refer to the Symptom Chart to diagnose the inoperative power liftgate.

Power open the liftgate by using a programmed RKE transmitter or the front control switch.
  1. Once the liftgate is fully open, power close the liftgate by using a programmed RKE transmitter or the front power liftgate control switch.
  1. Carry out the RGTM self-test.

This Workshop Manual procedure and fuse-related references are attached below as PDF documents...
