scottb908
After several weeks of seaching my dealer was not able locate a car in the color that we wanted with a factory Nav installed. They were able to find a Limited with everything I wanted minus that. They told me they would get that car and install the Nav unit themselves. It took 3 days for them to actually get the head unit in. Today they went to install it and they ran into complications. Infact they said they tried 2 head units and both of them failed to work properly. I am getting a little nervous about having them do the work now. What are the odds of 2 units being bad stright from the factory. Am I over worrying, is there more going on then the dealer is telling me, or should this be an easy install. Each time the dealer tells me it should only take an hour.. Well after 8 hours I still dont have my truck with the nav.
Lex Talionis
well... though I have not done one of those intalls.. I call on a 1 hour job - but that is classic retail/dealer BS snow job for ya. There are several people here who have done an install themselves and pulled it off. So, kind of makes me wonder about user error on their end. Yeah, 2 bad head units is pretty slim, possible, but slim. But, who knows for sure. I wonder why you just did not order exactly what you wanted from the factory just the way you wanted it like I and others do? You can do that ya know. Yeah, it takes 4-6 weeks, but you get just what you want, no test drives, no abuse, just for you fresh with your options exact. Anyway... seems like, if they cannot get it to work, you can bail on the deal and move on and (1) order a fresh car as you want (2) have them search more until they find it (3) buy one and install yourself as it can clearly be done and has been done. On #3, at least you could install exactly what you want - and some of the ones out there have cooler features than the Factory (i.e., add a backup camera) - but may also lack features like Sync integration. did you look at this site and see if you can in fact locate exactly what you want near you? use the Search Dealer Inventory.. there might be one around a little farther out? worth a look. scottb908
I had the dealer do a locate and he said he couldnt find one in the state with the options that we wanted.. All we basically wanted was the Blazing copper, with the leather seats and nav. I asked about getting one ordered from the factory and I was told the factories are winding down for the 08's and getting ready to retool for the new 09 line. Again I dont know how much was a snowjob from the dealer not wanting to put the leg work in. I have been to several sites though looking to see if I could find a model in the area that had what were looking for and I really wasnt finding much in the way of the orange with the limited package. My gf is a DYE HEART orange lover and she would not settle for any other color, and for the money shouldnt have to.
druck52
I have an 07 and bought and installed a factory nav system and yes it should take them less than an hour. Maybe they don't know what they are doing. The have to reprogram the new one which is a little tricky but they should be able to figure it out no problem. Lex Talionis
well I stand corrected in the time it takes to install.. but, I made one bad assumption.. I did not fully understand you were using a Ford Factory nav system. I thought you were having them install an after-market nav system - like others have done here - which appears to take well more than 1 hour to mate up to factory wiring and tie into the onboard system (Sync and such). I even remember, when I was looking to buy and could not find what I wanted, the dealer told me that could get a nav system, after-market, and have it installed and I said thanks, but no thanks. I wanted it factory done. so it took them 3 days to get the head unit, and they just happened to have been forward thinking enough and ordered 2.. hmmmm
scottb908
Well heres a little update... The dealer evidently ordered the WRONG unit. There evidently 2 different Nav systems out there, Both look the same. However only one of them suports the premium speakers aka the sub in the back. The unit they put in didnt support those. Well this is the story we were told anyway. The truck should be done and being delievered back to us this sometime today.
Lex Talionis
yeah.. I hope they did not trash the car & surrounding dash taking your system out, putting one in and finding it bad, taking that out, putting that second claimed unit in, finding that bad as well and taking it back out, then installing the claimed final correct version... I hate this kind of ineptitude... especially from a dealer no less. but, not a real shock given what I have seen from dealers in the past. hope it works out.. post up the final outcome. EDGEstevez
The same thing happened to me. I accepted the dealer's proposal to get a 2008 Edge with everything I wanted except the NAV and have it installed later. Well, they got it done, not at the dealership but at a place nearby and they did a good job. Now I am driving my Edge with NAV although the window sticker does not show one.
