APL111
Hello again Seems my wifes car has a mind of its own. First off their are no idiot lights on dashboard abs lights off. The problem is the abs will kick in when their is no need for it. The abs is pulsing the brakes yet it does not show the abs engaged on dashboard, maybe that is not lit when abs is engaged. The drivers front cv axles going to be replaced its boot is torn. Since the abs light/cel lights off I cant pull codes. I am thinking grease from axle got on rotor and contaminated brake pads. Or a wheel speed sensor is dirty. I tried cleaning off the entire area with brake cleaner and no luck.. Thing is sometimes it brakes fine other times it seems the ABS has a mind of its own. I am confused as I cant pull any codes or they are not visible. The Edge has 120,xxx miles on it. Thank you. Tony
akirby
A bad sensor would throw a code or at least illuminate the dash warning lights. Sounds like the ABS controller to me but I'm no expert.
wlepse
My wife's does something similar and then it started throwing warnings after a week or so but only above 75-80mph. Most on the site were suggesting a cracked tone ring. Ā I have been traveling for work so I haven't had a chance to check it out yet but might be a place to start. PaulSchott
Are you sure the ABS is pulsing the brakes and you don't have a seriously warped rotor? Does the pulsing change according to speed?
APL111
Well I pulled fuse 15 disabelling the abs and its gone. I am positive the abs is cycling and its not a rotor. It started this 2 days ago. Sometimes it does it sometimes it feels normal. Edited September 21, 2018 by APL111
wlepse
Mine started when turning and braking together. Otherwise it was fine. Then after a few weeks it started throwing lights and warnings above 75mph. I too have around 120k.
