SummaryFord Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2018 Ford Edge, Lincoln MKX, 2019 Ford Flex, and Lincoln MKT vehicles. The power supply cables at the starter and the alternator may not have been properly secured, possibly resulting in an electrical arc. RemedyFord will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the alternator and starter motor power supply cables to verify that they are properly secured, correcting them as necessary, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin September 17, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s number for this recall is 18S25. AFFECTED VEHICLES Vehicle Model Year Assembly Plant Build Date2018 Edge & MKX, 2019 Flex & MKT built on Oakville May 29, 2018Affected vehicles are identified in OASIS and FSA VIN Lists. REASON FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL In some of the affected vehicles, the generator and starter motor cable nuts may be cross-threaded or may not be fully tightened. An improperly fastened generator or starter motor cable nut increases the potential for electrical arcing, which could lead to a fire. The customer may experience a warning message in the instrument cluster or a vehicle no-start condition. SERVICE ACTION Before demonstrating or delivering any new in-stock vehicles involved in this safety recall, dealers are to inspect the generator and starter motor cable nuts and studs for damage, and verify that the nuts are properly torqued using a torque wrench.
