SHIZZY
I waited longer for this car than I drove it. Bummer. Just thought I would share. It looks bad on the outside, but the inside held up pretty well.

It looks bad on the outside, but the inside held up pretty well. That looked like it HURT!! Good to see your OK and the Edge did its job safety wise. Lots of people have complained about one thing or another (including me), but not much has been said about how safe the Edge is. And it obviously is. Happy motoring. CorporateEdge
I hope everyone is okay. Ā What exactly happened? looks like the semi decided to squish you up against the concrete divider. Was the semi cut off or did he/she just drift over and push you in? Looks like a nice sunny day so I doubt weather was a factor. Ā Any charges pending? Ā You will have to let us know what the insurance people say. I would imagine one look and they will just write it off. Did you have replacement coverage ? (i.e.: get a new Edge with no depreciation)

(i.e.: get a new Edge with no depreciation) Ā Thanks for the support and comments, I believe everyone is okay (me the the semi driver). I think I'm still running on adrenaline. The Semi was in the middle lane and went into my lane (left lane) and beyond. Couldn't tell you why at this point. Not only did he merge into my lane, but also onto the shoulder. No warning at all. The shoulder is wide enough to drive on and let passengers in and out on both sides of the vehicle without interfering with traffic in the left lane. He pushed me into the concrete barrier. The bottom of the barrier is wider than the top, so I am speculating that my wheel caught the base and rode me up and over the barrier with applied pressure from his cab. The damage on the driver's side is much less severe than the passenger side. Few scratches, but my front driver side wheel shattered. Ā It's my understanding the driver of the semi will be charged. Ā I'm not sure that I have replacement coverage, but I'll let you know what happens. Ā I managed to salvage my weather tech cargo mat, but couldn't get to the rest of the mats. lol. bri719
damn, gotta thank Ford's safety department! I am almost tempted to say "how did you like your crash?" as odd as that sounds. probably because I've been in two cars that were totalled and needless to say I didn't fare quite as well as you. luckily no collision as crazy as yours, but my 1st car ('89 Escort GT) did end it's existence in an impressive front end / t-boning when some guy pulled out into traffic from a sidestreet in a little Toyota with no warning. Ā one thing I am thankful for all the time, that I don't visually see every day when I get in and drive are the impressive safety features. glad you're OK and let us know when you get your replacement Edge!! Ā Speaking of safety features, it is curious that not a single airbag went off. At any rate, I walked away without a scratch.
bri719
man I would have thought the side (seat & curtain) airbags would have engaged. but it's possible you were hit at such an angle this didn't happen. or just with not enough side deceleration force. Ā I do know the front airbags and side airbags are different systems. but I expected something... Edited May 8, 2008 by bri719

Edgy Girl
Ouch.. glad you are safe and intact... Ā Hope you can work out the replacement.... Ā I have been rear ended - Im convinced the Edge is super safe... and evidently strong enough to withstand a semi..
CorporateEdge
Don't the air bag sensors require an impact in order to fire the air bags? Ā Based on the damage photos and descriptions it looks like the accident was a squeeze play as opposed to an impact. Ā Obviously the vehicle got bounced around significantly (hanging up in the air on the concrete median!) but I also imagine the sensors are adjusted to avoid firing in some pretty rough vertical and lateral motion. Off roaders would be discharging their air bags all the time if those motions were sufficient to set off the sensors. Ā The photos also make it apparent that the crumple zones, frame reinforcing and other safety features work as designed.
npggirl
OMG!!!!!! OMG!!!!!! Ā those are definitely worth some change. you should have tried to get 'em LOL
HG3535
Man thats horrible, glad you are ok. My guess, not knowing the details is either the driver fell asleep or he was on his cell phone. My wife has had several instances where she had to leave the road in order not to be run over. She switched from a Toyota Yaris to a 08 Edge in hopes that she will now be seen. PrinzII
Glad you are safe and sound. Most importantly, I am more convinced than ever that my wife and I made the right decision in buying one just by those pics alone.
Andry
I waited longer for this car than I drove it. Bummer. Just thought I would share. It looks bad on the outside, but the inside held up pretty well. Ā Okay, lets say there was a passenger in that seat, as there normally is a child in that spot in my case. What do you suppose would have been the damage that person? Cut by glass I could tell, but would they have been smooched with metal and seat, or maybe bruised? What do you think? Edgey1
Glad to hear you are ok, that is one heck of a hit! I really am suprised that the curtain and side seat air bags did not deploy though.
