Gen 2 year-to year differences?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

This is my first post here, and I come hat-in-hand requesting information, or at least a general kick in the right direction, please.

I am looking at purchasing a Gen 2 Sport model Edges, and I am trying to determine the year-to-year differences between the following items:

  • Rear Brake lights / turn signals. I have driven behind a few that were configured with solid red for a dual brake-turn signal, and I was behind a Titanium the other day that had the amber LED rear-turn signals. Is that a Tiatanuim-only option, or an option /stock based on model year?
  • I know the SYNC 3 is available for 16 and standard on 17+, and am aware of the conversion kits available. I'm wondering if the SYNC 3 and Android Auto is really worth the price difference (either via conversion kit or from moving to a 16/17 instead of a 15 MY).
  • Sunroof/moonroof...It seems like all the Sport models I see (both new/used and CPO) all have the panoramic sunroof thing. Is that standard in the Sport model?

I found an Electric Spice CPO MY15 Sport with equipment group 401A (but with the 20" wheels and no sunroof) for a decent deal (26K) and am seriously thinking of pulling the trigger on it...but will more likely wait until year-end and try for an leftover 18 under 33K or a CPO under 27K.

Thanks in advance for any advice/guidance/opinions.

Michael

The tail lights that are solid red are on the SE & SEL, and the Titanium & Sport trim levels get the light bar with amber turn signals.

SYNC 3 is a lot faster to use than MyFord Touch. Obviously, it's personal taste if you like it or not, but just using Google Maps (or Apple Maps) makes it worth it to me. I've got SYNC3 in my '17 Fusion Sport and our '16 Escape, and I'm about to upgrade my new-to-me '14 Edge Sport because it's something I'd really get a lot of use out of. If you can, may as well go for it.

Moonroof is optional on all trim levels.

Remember 2015 is the first year of the Gen2's - if you want to stay away from first model years just keep that in mind. If it's a 2015 to early-build 2017 Sport just make sure the engine is good with no smoke, oil consumption, or rough idle. Currently awaiting new cylinder heads (for my Fusion) for the 2.7 EcoBoost head issues (it's a 1-in-3 chance, so just look it over & look at service history if you can)...

Thanks so much! Good to know sport/titanium get the amber signals. I prefer those.

I have a 99 Maxima now with aftermarket basic bluetooth radio, so even the stock SYNC 2 would be a huge upgrade for me. I like the Android Auto functionality but really haven't had an occasion where what we had didn't work.

I usually swear away the first year of a new gen, that's my main hangup re: the CPO 2015. 1-in-3 chance for EcoBoost issues with the early years - yikes - thanks for letting me know! I would highly prefer a CPO when I buy, which has service history and all that jazz (plus the warrranty gets extended to 100K miles), I'll be sure to take a more detailed look at those issues.
