POOR SERVICE AT GIRARD FORD-NORWICH, CT

Recommended Posts

My wiper control worked poorly, my AC temp was not as cool as it should be, I went to the service dept, explained that the wipers delay did not work correctly, the service advisor had copied from the manual how the wiper system worked- I told him that the issue has not been corrected, when the tech checked it out the operation he used most of my wiper fluid and said it works correctly.

AC temp: I measured to output from the vent with a calibrated temp meter, on low speed the temp was 62.5 degrees, max ac it went to 65 degrees, the tech stated it was 47 degrees, I spoke with the service manager on the phone , explained I feel that the AC temp was incorrect, he stated his inferred unit is also calibrated, I met with the service manager, he stated he did not talk with me-, he had the service report, stating we do it by what Ford states in the service manual, I asked him to come out to the Edge twice and check the temp, that did not happen, I also explained that I went to other dealers , checked the temp with my meter, rudely he stated than go to others for service: this service manager needs training for customer service. Bottom line I will never go back to Girard Ford -Norwich , CT for service.

One of the grandkids bought their first car last weekend, a PT Cruiser. It spent half of the week in a garage getting all the fluids flushed and changed, filters replaced, basically getting all the maintenance up to date and a tune up. She called me Thursday saying the car would sometimes shake when going slow and the check engine light was on. I told her to stop by in the evening and we could look the car over and scan it but she never showed up. I called her last night to see what was up and she said she took the car back to the garage and they looked it over. She said they told her there was nothing wrong with the car. At the time the shaking hadn't been back but the check engine light is still on so we are going back there together this week.

She works part time at the local go kart track and can't afford to be paying two or more garages to do what she has already paid for. I can't speak for what is going on with this guy and the dealer but I can understand not wanting to pay more than once for the same work. Does this apply to Zander's Edge? It is a reason to go back though.

It's a 2017 Edge... it would still be under warranty so not being able to afford repairs is not the issue. He told the dealer that he had already been to other dealers and their measurement wasn't within spec as this dealer said. At this point, I would have done the same as this dealer - tell him to go get service at one of the other dealers. And I wonder why he didn't. He apparently had found a dealer that said it wasn't right so why not get it fixed there?

Wizard,

I see your point completely. I wasn't disputing anything. I was expanding on possible circumstances. I can't say I know the Edge enough to see it's a 2017 in the write up without being it stated. For all I know it's an 2007. Like the Continental Tire discussion, I know of ContiXXX systems from other situations and the discussion of TPMS and Forscan was all new to me. I've learned a heck of a lot more here than I've helped anyone.

As I said, I don't know the circumstances with the OP, the car or the dealer. My point was sometimes there are reasons to pursue the same shop to get it right and unfortunately as the grandkid is going through, they ain't all good guys. Sometimes the customer is myopic about what is and what they want it to be.

I'll agree that there is "attitude" with the post and it's not very often that attitude is helpful when dealing with anybody and as you've pointed out, posting for the sake of venting anger and frustration can usually be torn apart by an observant level head. My granddaughter and I will be going back to her garage this afternoon but I've warned her in advance that if she has brought this on herself I will empathize with her but there won't be any sympathy from me. She's a typical, impatient teenager that wants everything now and may have gotten what she asked for, "I want my new car now." We'll see.

Certainly there can be reasons to stick with the original service, whether it's cost or just having them make things right, but in this case no prior work had been done that needed to be corrected - it's just that the dealer didn't agree with his assessment of what was a problem or not. So he should go to a technician that agrees with him that something is wrong and is willing to fix it. I assumed it was the 2017 Edge in his profile.

Wizard,

I didn't even think to look at the profile. Thanks because screwing up is how I learn and remember. Usually. I guess what gets me about this than is why insist on this dealer without a reason? He has to have a reason, right? If he has nothing invested, financial or otherwise, is he a glutton for punishment? Maybe doing the same thing over and over expecting different results? That's a definition for something? :finger:
