Glove compartment door

Hi,

The glove compartment door on my 2009 Edge pops open all the time.

I have checked and it seems to sit correctly in its hinges.

Is there any kind of adjustment I can do?

Is there a string attached to the right side of the door to help keep it in place?

Yes, that string is attached.

I don't think it's there to keep the door in place, it looks more like a damper for a smooth opening.

I loozed at my 09 mkx and there doesn't appear to be any adjustment.

I would suggest spraying the lock mechanism with silicon spray. The locking mechanism may be binding, not allowing the lock to fully engage.

 

Alternatively you can buy a new latch ($20 ebay) or complete glove box off ebay ($50 ebay, used).

I just had a rattling problem with mine. You can adjust the door by slightly and carefully bending the metal bracket that the lock clamps onto. Go easy and in small steps.

If the lock grabs onto the metal bracket and it still opens it's probably the lock that needs to be replaced. You should try to lubricate the lock like enigma said before replacing it.

I spayed the lock and, at the moment, it seems to stay closed.

I noticed that the lid is not flush with the dash, it sticks out about 1/8 of an inch at the top and sides.

Yea, that's not right. Think I would try what Paul suggested, bending the metal bracket slightly.
