1004ron
I'm very happy with the Covercraft® - UVS100™ Heat Shield more details on - https://www.carid.com/covercraft/uvs100-heat-shield.html But it doesn't fold up too compact for stowage.

enigma-2
I use something similar to ones in the link below. They fold into a circular shape approximately 22" Diameter and unfolds into a rectangle. Takes two to fill the windshield. Works well enough and stores easily. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B018ERRLU2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_aZwjBbBG9K80G I've also used an exterior cover simular to the one below. Fastens easily, locks in place when you close the doors and blocks the sunlight BEFORE it enters the windshield. 2-sided, black for winter, (only really useful as an ice shield) aluminum for reflecting summer sun's infrared rays before they pass through the windshield. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01AOHYT50/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_r9wjBbBVJFSS7 Edited June 16, 2018 by enigma-2

1004ron
Here's my Covercraft. Sport parks in the sun all day at work, and when I get in the steering wheel isn't too hot to hold. Edited June 23, 2018 by 1004ron

Lbatx
I just picked up my Sport, but on all my other vehicles I've added the nano ceramic coating to the windshield. Makes a huge difference I our Hot Texas heat. Sport's getting it done on the 19th. It was only $200 for the front windshield. I can understand how it would help in the rain, but don't understand how it will keep out the Texas sun rays.
Lbatx
It's tint for your windshield basically. But a hundred percent legal and clear. You can see the difference between the color of the windshield and the uncovered area they cut out for the registration sticker. akirby
http://www.salshouseoftint.com/automotive Umm...that’s just window tint. Not like a ceramic coating.

Lbatx
All I can say is I've had it on four vehicles, most recently on my F-150 Platinum for about 4 years and I never had to use a sun shade, and I park uncovered at work. It's nano-ceramic. To each his own. I didn't mean to hijack this thread. Edited June 30, 2018 by Lbatx

Window tinting will most certainly reduce the cabin temperature, but many, like myself, have the factory privacy tinting and not prepared to apply anything that's darker/illegal , and there's no way a 100% transparent coating on the windshield will reduce the cabin temperature. I would not consider tinting the front windshield. Maybe you should give a shade a try, ....... you might be surprised.

rwf78155
That just doesn't make sense, I've never heard of a "Clear Tint". My son just got his new Mustang front windshield done with a clear tint (I never heard of such a thing either)........... and the selling hype said 100 % UV protection and significant heat reduction ! I'm skeptical, but they assurred him that he would never need a windshield heat shield again
Xtra
I have the nano ceramic 95% on my vista roof, it is almost clear and it works great at keeping the heat out. It is not as good as the solid retractible roof liner so I doubt it would replace the sun shade completely . After reading this thread I think I will add it to the front windshield. It may not replace a sun shade when parked but when on the road on a hot summer day it should help a lot. *** It may have been 70% not 95% not sure Edited July 2, 2018 by Xtra

I'm skeptical, but they assurred him that he would never need a windshield heat shield again I've heard that the windshields are inherently UV blocking, so I Googled and it seems to confirm that. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe-drive/culture/commuting/does-my-windshield-protect-me-from-the-sun/article12495123/ "Your windshield is normally quite different from the rest of your glass, in that it's two pieces of glass laminated with a layer of plastic – vinyl – in between," says Vandal. "So that triple-layer system by its nature – because plastics don't like UV – contains UV inhibitors that protect the plastic and as a result also protect any transmission of UV through it. So a windshield, laminated glass, blocks 98 to 99 per cent of all UV – A, B or C."
Xtra
It is not just the UV that the Nano Ceramic blocks it also blocks IR quite well.

1004ron
90% IR block Dub IR Nano Ceramic Tint http://www.dubirtint.com I browsed the web site and couldn't find confirmation that their "tint" was also intended for the front windshield - can you confirm? It's also not 'clear' how dark the tint needs to be to effectively reduce cabin heat, and if that grade of tint would be legal. http://www.christopherteh.com/blog/2013/03/car-cool/ So, here is the bottom line: if you are looking to cool your car cabin, choose a tint with a high heat rejection rate and place a reflective sunshade on the front windshield during parking.
