timfountain
I have a 2018 Edge SEL, new on May 2nd, I am the first owner and took delivery of it with 50 miles on the clock. Absolutely bone stock. Today I had a 300 mile trip and noticed that when I was doing a steady 70 MPH, with cruise on, Waze was telling me I was doing 83 MPH. I did a double take and then stopped, downloaded a GPS information app for my iPhone 8 and 6S and got the same results. Both phones were telling me I was doing 83MPH and the car speedometer was dead on 70 and the cruise said 70MPH. Having worked on GPS at a very intimate level, I am absolutely sure that the GPS derived speed was correct (I had between 7 and 10 satellites in-view so accuracy was pretty high). I am shocked that the speedometer can be this far off on a brand new modern car.... I normally drive 5 over at 70 MPH but 13 over is firmly in ticketing territory! Any ideas what is going on and how I can get the issue addressed? Has anyone else seen weird issues with their speedometer? Thanks
jmr061
Sounds like something is very wrong with the programming of the vehicle (assuming the correct size wheels are on it). I would get it to the dealer. How far off it is at lower speeds?

enigma-2
Kind of sounds like someone programmed in the wrong tire size.
candurin
Did you have it plugged into the USB, when performing this test? If so, try it again with the phone unplugged. I have noticed a discrepancy (phone GPS is always incorrectly HIGHER than speedometer) when CarPlay is active. When I use the phones GPS and compare to speedometer while unplugged, they are both spot on. When CarPlay is active, your phone will use the Edges GPS for speed determination and it goes a bit screwy. I can assure you, your speedometer is the correct reading. This was my exact scenario. GPS speed reads normal when not in Carplay mode (i.e.no USB attached). What the heck! As a h/w guy I have no idea how or why this would be the case, but it certainly was the issue. That is bizarre. A big thank you Candurin! mvan231
Yes there is on-going discussion about this on the Waze forums as well. I believe this is an issue with the CarPlay integration of the vehicle. One thing I know for sure, prior to installing the CarPlay USB module in my 2016, I was using the AppLink to display Waze on the in-dash display and the speeds were properly displayed. After CarPlay addition, now the speed is off by 4-5 MPH at lower speeds and 8-10 MPH at higher speeds similar to what you've all noticed
jmr061
Its a software flaw with the SYNC software. Ford has a newer version and hopefully will be releasing it soon (it corrects the issue). But we all know it takes forever for software updates to be released.
candurin
Apparently build number 19119 of Sync 3.0 addresses the speedometer issue. I’ll test it out this week and report back. Edited July 11, 2019 by candurin
jmr061
Ford is rolling out V3.0_19149 as of this weekend. Looks to be released on the dealer side first as I was able to upgrade mine through the official dealer process (OASIS/IDS) however the owner site did not reflect the download being available just prior to upgrading it via the dealer method. I checked before hand just to make sure. It does correct the IOS Speedometer issue. Be patient...Ford tends to roll out updates by vehicle models so some may have it and some may not at this point. candurin
Thanks Jason. It seems as though JR3T-14G381-AR has been rolled out in EU, but not in the US just yet. I'll gladly wait for Monday. Currently, when my wife stares at the CarPlay screen, she gets really pissed when she sees that Im traveling over 90mph in a 65mph zone in Waze. Ford has rolled it out in UK from what I saw on the Sync forum. I received a download link for the official release if you're interested in having it early. I previously installed an unofficial update "Sync3_3.0_19119" and I can confirm that it does fix the speed issue in Waze. Much nicer being able to have alerts turned on. Let me know if you want that download link.
candurin
Absolutely! But, make sure it’s from the IVSU US Ford site, not the EU one.

candurin
Just installed build 19205 (JR3T-14G381-AS). It can be downloaded directly from the US Ford IVSU binaries site, if you know how to manually change URL or you can find it on the Russian site. I won’t post the link, Updated in 10 minutes and all is working great!
