2019 Edge Order Guide

Can't comment on something I don't understand. But different part numbers can be for any difference. Even the same model year with & without vista roof would have different part numbers.

No, they wouldn't. A different trim level might have different spring part numbers, but having different options (except tire size) has nothing to do with what springs it has within that trim level. Now on a truck, that's a different story.

There are 9 different part numbers for the rear Spring in the first link & 6 numbers in the second link.

Lots of manufacturers price parts on model trims. Have a high end model, it may be the same as a base model part but because you paid more dor your vehicle we gonna make you pay more for a part. All about taking advantage of the unknown

What does the price of parts have to do with my post about springs?

And your point is? How many different trim levels are there, and with how many different engines are within those trim levels? Basically what I was saying is that just because a Titanium has a moonroof, doesn't mean it has different springs than a Titanium without a moonroof with everything else being the same (wheel size, engine, AWD etc)

because each spring could just have a different part number just for the trim it is on, but in reality be the same exact part

That doesn't make sense. It would double or triple the number of part numbers for the same exact part and serves no other purpose that I can think of.

Having worked in the parts business on both the dealer and manufacturer sides, I can tell you that it is true that more than one part number may be assigned to the same part but not within the same product line. If an Edge spring has a different part number then it is different in some way from other Edge springs. But it is not uncommon for the same part to have different numbers across product lines - in this case an MKX part might be the same as an Edge part but still have a different number because they get it from a different supplier or some other reason.

One example I'll never forget... most Honda motorcycles use the exact same oil drain plug washer as Honda automobiles yet the motorcycle part number is different and more than three times the price of the automobile part. However, the Accord EX part number isn't different from the Accord LX number (or even from the Civic number for that matter) so the idea that part numbers change between trim levels for no reason other than pricing isn't the case. The ordering and inventory management issues alone would make that impractical but more than that, manufacturers wouldn't want customers to hear about such a practice which could be a violation of antitrust laws - and things like that tend not to remain secret for very long.
