candurin
Just woke up to this little treat this am. I'm thinking tranny fluid. Can't really get underneath to have a good look yet (decided playing Rugby was a good idea yesterday and going from a prone to standing position is a bit tough today). At first glance, any thoughts? Looks like it's coming from an area above the center of the from axle. I'll drop it off at the dealer Monday (I've only got 69K miles so should be covered). Dealer is only 10ish miles away. You think it's OK to drive there or should I be looking for a tow?
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
If it is FWD, you can probably top it off and take it in if there are no traffic issues. Best is always a tow, in case the trans itself is leaking. Passenger side, right?
candurin
Cant really tell. Looks like it is. Its an AWD. Im leaning towards an axle seal. Edited June 10, 2018 by candurin
enigma-2
I'll drop it off at the dealer Monday (I've only got 69K miles so should be covered). Dealer is only 10ish miles away. You think it's OK to drive there or should I be looking for a tow? Tranny's red, so that would be my guess. If it were me, I'd call the dealer first thing Monday morning and ask him. I'd push how afraid I am of being stranded, etc. They may authorize (pay for) the tow to protect the transmission from being damaged. You "could" top it off, but how many of us keep the correct transmission fluid around for just such a possibility?
candurin
Well, all signs are pointing to PS fluid. I pulled it out of the garage today and it was bear to just steer it into the driveway. Needles to say, tow should be here shortly. And of course, my ESP plan expired last month... WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Oh no! So this is out of pocket? That really sux! Hopefully it is just a loose fitting, and does not need the line replaced
candurin
Either way, its less than the cost of a new car! We shall see...
candurin
Just as an update. It was the power steering line. It was split/leaking at the pump and needed replacing. Of course this required intake manifold removal, etc. $250 parts and $450 labor. Dealer threw me a bone and I got it done for $600 and change, all in.

That is not the usual Dealership Bone....
