New First Time Ford Owner

Hello Fellow Ford Owners,

I purchased a used 2011 Ford Edge Sport Ingot Silver Metallic with roughly 114k miles on it. It came with a good maintenance record, clean car fax and services at the local Ford dealer. This is my first Ford car ever and my first american car in at least 25 years. Got rid of my 2011 BMW X5, which was fine, but wanted something that was a little more reasonable to repair and could take it to any reputable indy for all repair work. I have always liked the 2011 to 2014 body style and thought Ford hit the nail just right with this look.

I will post some photos soon and the tech inside is interesting in a good way with pros and cons. However i had NEVER been a fan of america interior styling and quality, that plastic look just......no words for it LOL. The inside of the Edge Sport is decent, leather decent, comfort great, but it always seems odd that what is standard in overseas cars is not in America (per se) for example auto one touch windows going down or up..lol

This will be my half daily and all winter vehicle, I actually enjoy driving it better than my X5, however the X5 interior quality is nicer.

Thanks

Re windows - they are standard on higher trim levels and on the Lincoln MKX which is a better comparison to a BMW. That Edge Sport was probably $20K cheaper than that X5 when new.

A few things to note since you're new to Ford - set a personal code for the keypad so you can remember it. You can use it to unlock the vehicle without a key or if you lock the keys in the vehicle. You can also lock the keys in the vehicle on purpose if you're somewhere you don't want keys in your pocket. Once you use that feature you won't want another vehicle without it.

If it's AWD (can't remember if 2011 Sports were all AWD or not) then you'll want to read up on PTU maintenance.

Akirby,

Thanks and yes it is the Sport AWD. I will read up on the PTU. Are there any other issues to be aware of or things to be on the look out for. I tend to baby my cars a bit and mostly highway miles for me, well at least for the Edge that is. I do like the tech inside of the Edge, right up there with Toyota\Lexus which i didn't expect. Good call with the keypad entry, i know that is a signature of Ford and though it was rather weird at first! LOL

Because of its age/milage, consider changing all fluids, starting with the coolant and transfer case lubricant.

Also if they haven't already been changed, changr the plugs. Make this your 1st priority. Plugs should be changed around 90k and as they age, the gap widens, the plugs draw.more current, heating up the coils. When they get too hot, they fail (possibly taking the PCM with them $$$).

All,

Thanks, will start tackling these things one by one in preparation for the winter especially. Real quick mods, added the front bug visor and install the homelink visor, which still boggles my mind why that is not standard...LOL Below are some pics, will add more, but the basic look and feel is there.

Nice looking car. But I would not put off changing the plugs, if they haven't already been changed. Going through the summer with plugs this old is really asking for trouble. If they haven't been changed, you are probably weakening the coils right now.

Call you local dealer and give them you VIN. Ask them to check the history they have on the car and see if they have any records of what kind of maintenance has been done. If your lucky, the previous owner(s) took it the Ford for service.

I will have to check when I take it to Ford to get a key programmed. At Ford it had service at 106K:

Maintenance inspection

Battery charging check

Brakes check

Fluids check

Oil\Filter changed

Antifreeze/coolant flushed/changed

Transmission fluid change

Alignment performed

Will definitely get the service records from Ford.

Thx

I am happy to join this group. I have Ford edge 2009 SEL for a while it's now at 126km. I know I have not been carrying out maintenance regularly on it. I bought a new Toyota Hilux but I still want to keep my Ford edge, I felt selling it will be a loss. I am thinking to install GNV (Natural gas) on it to reduce fuel cost. Please is anyone with idea either good or bad.
