Tom Galloway
I am not satisfied with the brightness of my ambient lighting. I know there is a slider feature in the settings menu to adjust it but its no where near as bright as I want it. Ive seen some f150s and an explorer and feel like they are brighter. anyone have any suggestions or a fix for this?
omar302
Not read of any discussion on this issue. If you gave a black interior then this might be the reason, the light will not look as bright on black surfaces. I'd suggest you check another Edge (2015-2018) with same interior color, if it's brighter, then bring up the issue to you dealer.
roots57
Black interior may make it appear less bright (assuming yours is black) compared lighter interiors. I know mine aren't very bright, but they're also not supposed to be. They're meant to give a little bit of extra visibility in the foot wells and such, while adding what ford thought would be a "cool" feature in adjusting the color. It's probably safe to say that most people played with it when they first bought the car then never touched it again, I know thats what I did. If its a real concern, I'd also recommend just stopping by a dealer for a quick comparison.
enigma-2
Yea, I was disappointed with mine as well. I wanted "Heart's Desire" and all I can change to is "Asses of Roses".
Tom Galloway
Thanks for the input. I think I'll just install some led strips
TheWizard
Can someone explain to me why ambient lighting gets so much attention? I can appreciate lighted cup holders but they don't need to be very bright - just enough to see where they are so that drinks don't get spilled. But one of the first things I did with my Edge was put electrical tape over the foot well lights. I don't need to look at my feet and the overall brightness is distracting when driving on dark roads away from city lights.

I just like having the foot wells lit up especially when you get in and out of the car but ford didn't think about that, so I found some blue led strips that are controlled by your phone. I have a fascination with turning every light I can blue lol. I am changing the puddle lights on the mirrors blue and the headlights are being switched out for 3k leds that are able to change colors too, that and I like pure white led headlights over yellow headlights any day. I'm also changing out those nasty yellow license plate lights in the back to white leds, the last pair I had was 6k leds lol. The bulb number for those should still be
TheWizard
Ah yes, I agree that lighted foot wells for getting in and out are a good thing. But that's "courtesy lights" - the lights that go on and off with the doors (dome light, etc.). "Ambient lighting" is on while driving and that's the one I've never really understood. As I mentioned, I like the cup holder lights but prefer the way they are in my Mustang - there's a door over the cup holders so that when they aren't in use the lights aren't visible, leaving the interior mostly dark except for the dash lights (which I also keep dimmed as low as possible while still being able to see the instruments).
