andreasden77
Have a Freelander 2 2013 HSE (same as ford edge engine basically, thats why I cam hjere) that has poor acceleration (0-100 kmh in 16 secs), low top speed (around 145 kmh) and generally feel sluggish. 60k kms Beyond that, no symptoms like black smoke, engine performance warnings on the dashboard, engine noise or anything else. What could it be? These are my thoughts: 1) Something with fuel supply: Unlikely, because there is no juttling or poor starting or anything else 2) Some problem with air supply such as leak in the hoses: Could be but would expect some smoke and whisling 3) Turbo malfunctioning: Could be but strange at 60000 km and also no noises 4) MAP sensor malfunctioning: This is what I would believe it is Any thoughts? WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Have had wastegates fail on the 2.0EB. Would need turbo replacement to fix. Check to see if there is a P0299 code in the PCM. Alternatively, check for loose turbo hoses causing lack of boost. Without boost, these engines will be put-put power only. Certainly the MAP sensor is worth checking and cleaning, tho no reports of it having issues yet. Sometimes a fuel pump will fail on these powertrains, but I do not believe that to be the issue here.
CTFordfan
Did it come on suddenly or happen over time? Is the vehicle garaged or parked outside? I just did an oil change on my pickup that is parked outside and the air box was packed with a mouse nest.

UPDATE: So it turns out it’s the turbo. P0299 error code and no boost. Confirmed by 2 mechanics (a third, the official Land Rover dealership didn’t detect anything ) 3 questions: I would have thought this would require turbo replacement but a local turbo specialist who diagnosed the fault says it’s possible to replace the “cartridge” (the piece that holds the turbine) and also if needed the exhaust valve (waste gate?. Both obviously much cheaper than turbo replacement but is it feasible with repair and maintenance rather than replacing the turbo? Where would you source parts or turbo? How many man hours does it take to remove and install the turbo? I understand the chasis needs to be separated and hence will require a lot of ma hours? 20? Thanks
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Not familiar with LR's engines, so can't say about the turbos on them. But on the Edge, the turbo/wastegate is replaced as an assembly. Yes, you could have a shop replace the CHRA or individual parts as needed, but OEM is complete unit only. eBay or Amazon may be of help in locating a wellpriced new turbo if you have the part number for it. WWWPerfA_ZN0W
ok, parts suddenly got expensive, LOL. No idea on labor tho. Typical times on a difficult Ecoboost turbo are about 8 hours, and that includes dropping part of the subframe to get to it. I don't expect more than 10 hours really should be charged. WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Looking at the 2013 HSE lineup, I do not see the supercharger option. Sport HSE, there is a supercharger option. No turbo however. Used superchargers are going for about $1,500 on eBay. ENGINE / ENGINE / SUPERCHARGER & COMPONENTS / SUPERCHARGER LR096455 - supercharger 5.0 LITER, from VIN# DA771218 MSRP Core ? omar302
I believe the Freelander is the LR2, it does have a 2.0L Turbo engine: https://www.landrovermerriamparts.com/parts/2013/Land%20Rover/LR2/HSE?siteid=215719&vehicleid=392611&diagram=7121224

Put a 0 too much I would think i will be paying around 1000 USD in labor and have to import the new turbo so another lets say 1,700 USd so 2700 USD in total. Sucks but oh well. Any hope it can still be someting that can be resolved without turbo replacement?
