fordedge2
Need some help here. I've done many brakes jobs and this one has stumped me. I have a 2014 edge. I just replaced the rear pads and rotors. I was able to retract the pistons and reassemble everything. I drove it around and now both left right rests are dragging bad. The pistons in the calipers will just not retract. Any ideas? They weren't dragging pre swap. New rotors match the old rotors dimensionally. Pads are from dealer. lildisco
I'm no expert, but sounds the caliper needs to be replaced. Maybe it blew a seal internally when it was pushed back in or a line was kinked during pad replacement. Sucks to buy a new caliper, but that would be my guess.
Mikula
I agree with disco. When you did the pads did you just clamp the old pads to push them in without cracking open the bleeder? I always crack the bleeder now instead of just pushing fluid back up into the reservoir, then top it off if necessary. sometimes not cracking the bleeder puts unnecessary stress on the calipers. perhaps bleed the brakes to be sure there is no air as well Edited March 4, 2018 by Mikula
omar302
Also might want to check that the notches on the back of the pads and caliper surface groves are aligned correctly.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
The rears are the screwin type, right? Might need to doublecheck they are seated properly, as omar said.

I aligned the slots in the piston to the pin on the pad. I did not crack the bleeder, I opened the reservoir.
fordedge2
I swapped a caliper and the problem still exist. The caliper won't retract. It still wants to drag. I bled it. Master cylinder? It is pushing fluid so I assume it is good. Anyone else have the same issue?
macbwt
You sure the emergency brake lever is not depressed? IF both are dragging this sure seems like an emergency brake lever issue.
omar302
Don't the emergency brakes use the brake shoes inside the rear disc/drum and hence would not have an effect on the calipers? Edit: My mistake, it doesn't as clarified by WWWPerfA_ZN0W below. Edited March 7, 2018 by omar302
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
2011 on do not use the brake drum/shoes emergency setup. Just the plain ole rotor & caliper. I believe to compensate, the rear rotors are the same size as the fronts. EDIT: Rear is a bit LARGER than front!!!
