Jeb_66
I'm sure this has been asked but I couldn't find it if so. I have a 2007 Edge SEL. The factory radio has a volume knob that is failing so I'm looking at replacing the radio anyway. It does have the premium sound with the sub in the back. I was trying to figure out if that factory NAV unit would plug up and work without a crazy amount of work. Anybody have any idea? Thanks. enigma-2
No doubt there are less expensive ways to go, but if go with these people, you get everything, including programming, GPS, navagation disk, instructions and a guarantee. https://www.infotainment.com/collections/all/products/2007-2008-ford-edge-gps-navigation-radio
akirby
I think you can swap out the head unit but it requires some dealer or IDS programming.
Jeb_66
akirby - I have an IDS and can program anything a dealer can pretty much. I know I'd need the antenna (cheap part) and the head unit. The only thing I knew for sure was different was I had to have the premium sound system, which it does. I'd also have to get the head unit that doesn't have sync since my Edge doesn't have it. But other than that...... I don't know why it wouldn't work. Enigma - That's great. I appreciate the link. I may have a head unit already sourced, so I'll probably try to reprogram it myself and see what happens (since I have the IDS anyway). If that doesn't work I'll be ordering from them. I like the idea of keeping it factory instead of going aftermarket. Weird, since when I was younger I couldn't wait to get the OEM parts off and aftermarket parts on. Lol. Being a professional mechanic has changed the way I view that kind of stuff I guess.
enigma-2
Don't forget to pick up a GPS antenna.
Jeb_66
And a GPS DVD I guess?
candurin
So, I have to ask... you want to replace an 11year old head unit with an 11 year old head unit? The maps will be woefully outdated as well. Why not go aftermarket and use a PAC adapter (I think thats what it is) to keep OEM steering wheel controls?
enigma-2
I was wondering the same thing. For example consider the Pioneer AVIC-6201NEX from Crutchfield $800). https://www.crutchfield.com/p_1306201NEX/Pioneer-AVIC-6201NEX-Package.html?avf=Y Maintains all factory controls (with adapter), abynd adds all the latest features. Also backup camera, voice calls, touch screen, etc. Really nice unit. Installation parts ($140): https://www.crutchfield.com/car/solution/packagefinder.aspx?i=1306201NEX&vid=20514&installno=8466&cc=01&mode=ShopPath
TheWizard
Or the very similar Kenwood: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_113DNX574S/Kenwood-DNX574S.html?tp=20212. The one significant advantage that Kenwood has over Pioneer is that it uses Garmin GPS. Both are excellent choices with the Pioneer having a better FM tuner and more audio tuning options while the Kenwood has a somewhat easier to navigate menu interface along with the navigation advantage.
enigma-2
Kenwood is $50 cheaper too. Either one is excellent.
