candurin
So as my car ages (only 66k!), its starting to develop a creaking sound (kinda like cracking knuckles) when I start to move the car or make a turn. Its definiely more pronounced when cold, but certainly does it from a dead stop. Seems like its coming from the wheel wells (front and back seem to make it). Perhaps some type of bushing needs to be replaced? I know you guys enjoy diagnosing issues solely from a vague description of a random noise. fishx65
I'm going with strut bearing. My 2011 has been crying for a while now but I'm ignoring her. Mine is loudest when turning right into a parking spot.
candurin
Its also noticeable when I hit a bump, pothole etc. Ill have a look. Any tell-tale signs from a visual standpoint?
evh
When it is stopped and you push up and down on it does it make a sound? My noise was sway bar links. It would make the noise when bounced.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
If you notice excessive lean into corners, that is more indicative of SB links. Otherwise, given that you are in NJ, I would say time to do suspension (struts/shocks/mounts) at all 4 corners.
enigma-2
"Cracking knuckles"? Sounds like strut tower bushings. They can size and not rotate, forcing the spring to jump from point-to-point instead of rotating smoothly. As above, new struts, bushings and shocks.
candurin
It is absolutely more pronounced from a dead stop. Really a popping noise once I start moving. Ill get around to it eventually.
