SportWEdge
Last night had to slam on the brakes due to an idiot driver. Now my pedal goes all the way to the floor. You can pump it up, but if you hold pressure it slowly goes towards the floor. I am guessing it a bad master cylinder??
lildisco
Or you blew a brake line. Park it somewhere dry & pump the brakes a few times. Then walk around your edge & see if you can see fluid on the ground near your wheels.
chefduane
More than likely master cylinder. Pretty standard symptoms. When you do the diagnostic suggested by lildisco have someone open the hood and listen for a hissing sound. If you have the sound... master cylinder. There is a TSB on it and a Ford authorized repair process. I had my master cylinder replaced no charge when it went out. Do a search here and I'm sure you'll find the details. WWWPerfA_ZN0W
ummm ... brake booster, chef?
enigma-2
My 09 MKX did that. New brake booster helped a little, new brakes helped more. However one of the mechanics found something binding on the brakes that wasn't allowing the pads to fully contact the rotor. (This was during a "free" brake check with coupon). Whatever it was, made a 80% difference. Ā Someone here who has a better understanding of the brakes may be able to speculate on what it was. Ā As it was free, and I didn't even notice it until I was on the way home, I never asked exactly what he did.
chefduane
Yes, brake booster. Not master cylinder.
SportWEdge
I called the Ford dealer. There is a safety recall on the brake booster. Taking in tomorrow to be replaced. No charge. Yeah! Thanks for the info people!
