Fastfwd75
Currently the ford and lincoln download to usb service is down. I have a 2016 MKX with sync 3.0 version 1 I found a jl1t-14g381-aj download for 2.3 NAV NA on the web. Is this the same for all cars with NAV? "SYNC3 Consumer Assembly Upgrade - Release 2.3.10 - Only for MY 16 NonNav/NonEU assemblies." I also found a file for version 3.0 but that is even sketchier. Don't really need it until they get waze working. All I want is carplay for maps, podcasts and music. I have upgraded the usb hub. jmr061
If your vehicle doesn’t have navigation that should be okay though make sure it is coming from a trusted source.
enigma-2
^^^ 2x Files on the Web could very well be corrupted. Load it in your ACU and you could very well brick your unit. Wait until you can download the exact file needed for your VIN. There's nothing so important that it can't wait a week or two.
Fastfwd75
You are right of course. Much safer to wait for the download from Ford. Tech companies would have a mechanism that looks for a checksum to prevent any corrupted files. Car companies maybe are not there yet but maybe they are; I have read quite a few stories of people not being able to update by usb; maybe those were corrupted files. Normally I would expect update files from a reputable source to be available easily and reliably even for a 100$ electronic gizmo. I have hue lightbulbs that update firmware by wifi easily; the bulbs are 20$. I would also expect a changelog that tells you what the update does. Had another Ford before and sync updates did work eventually but it was never trouble free first time and done. I wish Ford had put that last extra bit of finish on their product. They are forward looking with carplay available in 2016 cars and I think they will be the first to integrate waze too. pintokid
Try the Ford site again. I couldn't get it to work yesterday, but today I downloaded the 2.3 update. They said you need a USB drive with 32G free, but the update only needs 1.6G. I'm waiting for the car to get back home to perform the update. Does it reset all your settings? They do let you know that your phones need to be re-paired. AACK.
akirby
The USB download works intermittently but you can usually get it to work with a few tries over a couple of days. Very frustrating.
Fastfwd75
Yes it is working now. Not great but good enough. It was failing for an entire week and from reading the forums it seemed like it had been failing since december and Ford did not give out an ETA on when it would be fixed. I would not have been happy getting a car based on carplay capability and not being able to make it work. I could always have lived with a few days before carplay but it is the main reason why I shopped for an mkx with sync 3; it has to work.
