RJG
I have seen a GM transmission in an older V8 BMW. Probably used for it's high TQ rating.
RJG
Last I heard fluid swaps were around $180. Thanks....I'll do engine coolant same time.
macbwt
I think Ford learned some hard lessons with the dry clutch automatic in the Focus. The Edge will is a wet clutch design for the new 8sp according to the research I have done.
akirby
I think Ford learned some hard lessons with the dry clutch automatic in the Focus. The Edge will is a wet clutch design for the new 8sp according to the research I have done. The Focus tranny is a dry clutch but it’s a DCT - dual clutch transmission. It’s like 2 manual 3 speed gearboxes side by side with clutches that engage and disengage each side. One side is 1, 3 and 5 and the other 2, 4 and 6 so when you’re in 4th gear and accelerating 5th gear is already selected on the other side so shifting from 4th to 5th is just moving the engine power to the other shaft via the clutches. No torque converter. The wet clutch versions handle more torque and are used in Europe with no real issues. The dry clutch was a huge mistake and probably only gained them 1/2 mpg. The shocker is they still haven’t replaced it with a 6F. The new 8 speed FWD tranny is a normal torque converter automatic. Completely different.
