FSA 17B39 - BACKLIGHT SHATTERS

ONEDGE16

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have a 2016 Ford Edge, today while driving my back window shattered...apparently it's related to this recall, not sure why it says backlight...it was the entire back window not just a light. They told me it had something to do with the rear wiper motor and corrosion causing the issue.

The dealer has been very accommodating and requested a rental for me to be paid by Ford while mine is being repaired since the window is on back order. I was pretty irked that it took roadside assistance 49 minutes to call me back after I left my number. I had already got the window taped up and was getting ready to drive it to the dealer myself.

jb, same thing happened to me last Saturday (see "rear window shattered today"). My dealership's service dep't told me today it's the first time they saw or even heard about that (yeah, right!); so they don't know if it's covered by the warranty or not (they said likely yes, but need confirmation from Ford).

Same here: back glass is back order. I don't understand that!!!

I went today to my dealership to pick up a courtesy vehicle. The person at the counter told me it's the 3rd rear glass breakage this week. Apparently, Ford would proceed with a recall on recent models to fix the rear defrost electrical connection, potentially causing the rear glass breakage. Still no confirmation from Ford on warranty coverage but it's looking good.

My back windshield exploded on the way into work this morning, I have a 2015 Ford Edge SEL.  Same issue described in this thread (seems to emanate from the the wiper).  Unfortunately, I live in the US not Canada, so Ford said the FSA 17B39 was not valid.  I asked for an explanation since (1) the car was manufactured in Canada on the same assembly line, and (2) Ford already acknowledged it was an issue (at least for those lucky folks living in Canada ) by issuing FSA 17B39.  The "customer service specialist" could not provide an adequate answer, but suggested I take it to a dealer so they could "diagnose the problem."  Funny thing, I had already visited the dealer who could only recommend an auto glass shop.  I have been a long time Ford/Lincoln customer/fan...but this sort of silliness on a previously identified problem is beyond frustrating.  Ford should remember: it is easier to keep an existing customer than [trying to] earn a new one.

When I had my '16 Titanium, my back glass never shattered but it's my dealer who informed me that there was a service bulletin about that and there was a modification which had to be done, so they did it at no charge. I now assume that it's already done on the newer models...
