dallenx
I bought mine 9/30/07. It now has 10,600 miles on it. I broke the engine in g-e-n-t-l-y. I'm averaging 19.1 city driving, 22.8 crowded, but not congested freeway, 24.7 open freeway (no acceleratng, braking, stopping, etc and no AC) I was lurking through some posts and came across one where an owner had an odometer that was reading way off. This got me to thinking about our used '07 SEL FWD (20,000 miles) because my wife complained about going through a lot a fuel this week. She had used nearly a full tank going over the mountain pass from 300ft to 4800ft. So....I filled up this morning and had a chance to get on the highway. I reset my garmin nuvi 200 gps, my blackberry gps and the message center info. I set the cruise at 61mph and made two lane changes and no braking. The results reported from each: Edge Trip=27.6mi MPG=28.7 Avg mph=60 Garmin Trip=27.8mi Avg mph=60 Blackberry Trip=27.7 Avg mph=60 Again, I started thinking. I believe this Edge was broken in at highway speeds. I did that when I bought my last new car and it got 24-25hwy when some others were getting 15hwy. Did you drive your car at hwy speeds for the first 1000, 5000 or 10000 miles? If so, how's your MPG? Did you drive your car around town, 25-45mph for the first 1000, 5000 miles? If so, how's your MPG? I'll have to see what the city/hwy mixed mpg is. I'm also curious if the mpg from the message center is correct or if it's using 'three stooges math' to just show me what I'd like to see. I'll have to get a couple of tanks through it and do my own math versus trusting the ford algorithm outright.
akirby
The message center mpg has consistently proven to be accurate within 1 mpg or less. It knows how far you've driven from the odometer and it knows how much fuel it's used since the fuel injectors are computer controlled. It's a simple calculation.
