ben senise
I press on the steering wheel button instead of saying "OK Google" when my phone is plugged into the car and running Android Auto. I was just wondering if there is anyway to direct my speaking to Sync instead. For example, if I want to issue a command like changing the climate control temperature or similar. It's a hassle to press the screen to return to sync and do something and then go back to AA.
Burrcold
Short press and release of the talk button will get you Sync 3, and the longer hold gets you AA/CarPlay.
jmr061
Not that I know of. When you switch to Android Auto or Carplay voice control of SYNC is lost until you switch back to SYNC. Press the "speak" button on the steering wheel once (short press) and you access Sync. Hold it down and you access Siri (or Google Assistant). Just double checked it and it works.

Burrcold
Yes. I sent a text through iMessage and then changed the temp through Sync, all through voice commands. Test complete.

But that’s not CarPlay. That’s just Hey Siri.

akirby
changing the temp is siri? No - sending a text message.
akirby
No - sending a text message. Burrcold was describing how to use Hey Siri with an iPhone and use sync 3 voice commands interchangeably. You hit the voice button quickly for sync 3 and you hold it for 3 seconds and it sends the voice commands to Siri instead. But that’s not the same as Android Auto/Apple CarPlay.
Burrcold
Exactly. When you have CarPlay on (iPhone plugged in) the talk button only activates Siri (through CarPlay). You have to do everything through the touchscreen to use Sync 3.
