Chipster Posted December 18, 2017 Report Share Posted December 18, 2017 An odd question I know, but I was wondering if the back seat backs will lie flat with the bottoms removed? I don't have kids but do have a big dog and find that I hardly ever have the back seat upright, so that's why I am interested. ben senise Posted December 18, 2017 Report Share Posted December 18, 2017 i recently removed the rear seat bottom in search of one of dozens of annoying rattle. I got rid of the rattles by putting a couple of pieces of very dense foam in key spots and putting a couple of zip ties nice and tight on some connectors. to remove the seat, there are two small levers on the front of the seat where it meets the structure of the car. they are about center of the two outside seats. press those and lift the seat a little bit. this will disengage the hooks. now push the seat to the rear of the car and pull up at the rear. this will disengage the hooks at the rear of the seat, also approximately centered under the two outer seats and approx. as far back as the seat back. once the rear hooks are out, lift the rear part of the seat and it will be free. Mikula Posted December 18, 2017 Report Share Posted December 18, 2017 ben is mostly correct. push the lever, lift the front of the seat a little bit, then push the seat toward the rear, and lift up. like he said they are hooked in place. Mikula Posted December 19, 2017 Report Share Posted December 19, 2017 (edited) actually.. just took a look at the seat and manually folded it down. though it is out of the vehicle, it does appear that yes, they will lay flat without the bottom seat there. not "flat" to the spare tire area, but "flat" as in, parallel to the ground. or so it appears. Now you got me! If the spare well has its cover would the cargo area be flat to the back of the front seats? As you know well this is what it looks like now. Chipster Posted December 22, 2017 Author Report Share Posted December 22, 2017 I did not pull it out, but after some detailed looking and folding seat backs I don't think it will be a good idea to remove the bottom. I might be wrong about this, but with the seat bottom gone the back of the seats might not have the support needed to prevent the seat backs from being over extended forward. Mikula I think your approach may be a better idea, but I am not sure I want to go to that much trouble. My dog doesn't care and if she is fine with it I guess I am too. I was a welder/fabricator for years, and just recently started to try working with wood. it was a saturday project that i'm 100% sure my dog does NOT appreciate. like your pup, i'm sure she could care less! side note though, if you ever build a platform, don't cover it in a waterproof outdoor material. sounded like a great plan at the time. give it a little gas from a red light and she slides all the way to the hatch no matter how much she tries to dig her nails in. learned that one the first week! 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
