2018Sport
Just wondering how many of you up here that get snow rust proof your Edge. I have always done it on my other cars but I really not looking forward to the mess that is left over when they are done. Does it get in-between the panels under the floor on the Edge? I would be going to Krown.
fishx65
I undercoat and rustproof all my vehicles. I only rustproof once but do touch up the undercoating every fall. 3M is the rustproofing spray I use and pretty much any rubberized undercoating will work if ya put it on thin. RJG
Living in Florida...we don't do that......but my New England friends tell me they don't do that any more.....causes more problems than it solves.
2FAST4U
I rustproof all my vehicles, including my Edge and my girlfriend's MKX. It's an oil-based product which when done properly goes into every nook and cranny and stays there, diminishing by a lot the risk of rust forming in hard to reach spots. They do the whole undercarriage, floor, inside crossmembers, etc, also inside the doors and tailgate (especially the bottom where dampness usually stays). I've always got great results with that kind of rustproofing and I don't understand which are the "problems" which RJG" is referring to... Claude. The steel has to be completely clean, dry & bonded properly. Problems come from trapping moisture between the coating and the metal. Older coatings split and chip, allowing moisture to migrate between the coating and become trapped there. I had one of my cars undercoated professionally. They cleaned the bottom with steam, allowed to dry for couple of hours then the coating. Had to take it back every year for touchup. Still rusted in spots they could reach.
2017 SLE FORD EDGE
Like in my previous topic, if you don't wash your door lips, your doors are going to rusty quickly. The bottom of doors fold around the bottom of car, getting a lot of salt, mud, etc. On bottom edge of car. I was disappointed when I seen how thin the metal is. Every time I wash vehicle, I wipe down inside door panels & trunk/hatch, & that's when I noticed problem.
enigma-2
Whow. This is a 2017? I'm stunned. Went out and looked at my 09 and no rust. Should be covered under new car warranty.
2017 SLE FORD EDGE
Stopped at local Ford dealership(not where bought) & they hadn't seen this problem with other Edges.

Dirt does accumulate at the bottom of the doors on mine too but like you, I wash it off and wipe it dry every time I wash the car I guess it pays off because I have a 2016 (2 years old now) live in Canada and don't have a single spot of rust anywhere on my vehicle. Rust will form if you allow the dirt to accumulate get moist and leave it there…but nothing beats prevention like a yearly spraying with an oil-based antirust product.
