jeff13edge
Hi, I was wondering what maintenance the community recommends? My 2013 Ford Edge Limited is at 117k miles. It is operating okay right now, but I have not done much maintenance and don't want to run it into the ground. I reviewed the guidance from Ford but didn't take away much from it -I thought I would find more recommendations at the 100k marker. Naturally oil change companies have all sorts of recommended flushes and other maintenance guidance above and beyond what Ford has listed. However I am looking for more of a budget-conscious approach. Are there any things I should definitely have done or looked at for a vehicle at this mileage? Thanks! -Jeff

enigma-2
Change the plugs, coolant & PTU fluids (if AWD) asap. Change tranny fluid. Then all other fluids (power steering, brakes & rear axle). Engine air filter, cabin air filter and seat filters (if seats are air conditioned). Check for abnormal wear on tires. (May need 4-wheel alignment). Check tire pressures (esp spare).
chefduane
After all the initial fluid/maintenance items listed above, here are the intervals that I follow: 5k miles: oil/filter, rotate tires, check/top fluid levels, clean air filter (I have a K&N). 20k miles: change PTU oil, clean cabin air filter (also a K&N), 30k miles: coolant flush/fill, ATF flush/fill, 50k miles: rear differential (RDU) flush/fill, PS fluid suck/refill, Brake fluid suck/refill. Oil and filter are Mobil-1. This might be a little overkill but it's what works for me and what I an comfortable with.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
All good data from enigma and chef above ^^^. When I hear "budget-conscious", that scares me LOL. I do spend more than I should on my Edge, but oh well. The more city driving you do, the harder it is on the powertrain. So do not be tempted to go by mileage alone for the servicing. I will say that oil changes are the most frequent servicing you will do, and for most intents and purposes, Motocraft Synblend 5W20 oil and Motorcraft FL500S filter is a fine combination. If you are a DIY'r, you can change oil & filter sometimes for under $20! You may need up to 6 quarts of oil. Mobil1 has the most rebates I have seen, so if you stock up, you can save some serious change. Take advantage of % off offers at stores like Advance Auto/Autozone etc. when items are NOT on sale. If you are current or ex military, there might be additional discounts as well. Walmart is usually a good option for items they stock, great pricing 24/7. Some items may be ship2home only tho. Ford offers a $40 (sometimes $30 w rebate) service that does oil change, tire rotation, etc. Pretty good deal! The intelligent oil life monitor seems to work in the 2012 & up MYs, so make sure it is set to 100% after every oil change for a fresh countdown. Plan to change oil and filter definitely soon after it reaches 10% oil life remaining or thereabouts.
eagleeye 11
I'm new here and will take that schedule to the bank. I'm anal about having clean fluids at all times and has served me well with not having big repairs in all my vehicles and off road vehicles. Long run this is cost effective. I am a huge Amsoil fan and hope that their fluids will be good for the Edge. Thanks enigma-2 and Chefduane Edited March 5, 2018 by eagleeye
enigma-2
I was responding to Jeff13edge and his car with 117k miles. I see you have a 2013 but don't know your km. Besides considering fluids, it's most important to change the plugs at 90k miles (guess that's about 144km).
14AWD3.5
Coolant, coolant, coolant! Or pony up appx $1700 (at the stealership) for the internal water pump possibly. Lots of threads about it. Makulo ford tech has YT on it. Agree with everything else, TPU if equipped, every possible fluid on a regular basis and ignore anything “lifetime” or with a 50K interval or higher. If you want to keep it for years, fluids are cheap compared to long blocks... Besides, regular service will spot other issues, thats why they offer cheap oil changes and inspections - can’t sell you on a repair if you don’t come in...
