makidada
Well, it's been a year since I purchased my Lincoln MKX and for the most part I've been quiet content with it... that is, until now. I am almost at the point where I am ready to return it to the dealer, and count my losses. I am driving down the street, when all of a sudden, the airbag light comes on, the car looses excelleration, then all of the dash lights come on. I call the dealer and make an appointment to bring it into the shop for the next morning. I pull into the restaurant to pick up lunch, get back in my car, and nothing happens, it will not crank, wont turn over, wont even make a noise. I call the dealer back (not even 10 minutes from the first call) and tell them that "in addition to all the lights being on on the dashboard, it will not start". They give me the number to roadside assistence, which was an ordeal in and of itself to deal with, but I will tell that story on another day. Almost 2 hours later, I arrive at the dealership, (roadside took 1hr 40 min) the car cranks, and no lights. They keep it, give me an older modle Ford Taurus and tell me that I can pick my MKX up tomorrow. I receive a phone call on the next day, Wednesday, we can't start your car... can you bring the spare key. I leave work again, go home, get the key, take it to the dealer and go back to work. Thursday, we are replacing the PCM on your car, it will take two days to get the part, you will have your car on Tuesday at the latest. Keep the Ford Taurus for the weekend, enjoy! Now it's Tuesday, we still can's start your car, we are ordering another PCM. To make this long story a bit shorter... Friday, you can come pick up your car. Yippie... Sunday, leaving church, "girl, you don't have any tail lights" Monday, lights work, not problem, Tuesday, no lights on the left side of the car. Wed., I call... Friday, I take the car to the dealer, on the way, it looses excelleration, again, the lights come on, again... I get there, leave the car running so they can see the lights... 3 hours later, they are taking me to a rental car location to pickup a vehicle for the weekend... I get a call today, we've replaced the PCM, again... you can pick your car up tomorrow. I've missed work, school, and am loosing patience. Has anyone else had similar problems with their MKX or EDGE? Phoenix
Dunno. Can you de-acronym the PCM, please? I had two modules replaced, but PCM draws a blank.
bill0754
Sorry to hear of all your problems. Sounds like your dealer is not sure what the problem is. I have had my MKX over a year, and 9500 miles. Has not gone back to the dealer with any problems...not even a squeak to complain about. Hope they figure your problem out! Good luck! druck52
PCM= powertrain control module and if it needs to be replaced twice it is probably not your problem. it sounds like something else is causing the problems.
securinu
sounds like a ground issue somewhere. electrical gremlins like that are usually due to bad grounds.
akirby
Sounds like you need a better service department, or at least someone with better troubleshooting skills.

wizofozus
Have them check the wiring harness. There's no way they could have that many bad PCM's in a row.
makidada
Me again... So, I picked my car up on Wednesday morning 4/9/08 and to my surprise, it seemed to be going great. Was told that it was the PCM again, and that they had to manually update this on, and that I should be good for the next 7 years. Pulled it out of the lot, on my way to work and noticed a crack in the windshield that wasn't there when I dropped it off. Phoned the dealer and they said that they would replace it "no problem". So I thought great, no problem. Sunday, 4/13/08, on my way home from church with my God children in the car, it starts all over again... first the air bag light, then the skid light, then it looses acceleration, then the entire dashboard lights up again. I begin to pray because I am on the highway on my way to drop off these kids. I leave the car running as I run one in the house, then drop the other one off, and head home. The lights go off, I think I'm ok, and I'll call the dealer again tomorrow. Not even 10 minutes later it starts again, good thing I am almost home, (forget grocery shopping today). I pull into a parking space, turn the car off, then decide maybe I should move to a space where they will be able to access it should they need to tow it, because now, I don't feel comfortable driving it anymore... turn the key... nothing... turn the key again... again, nothing. So I get out, go in the house and call the Ford Customer Service Line, which the lady at the dealer gave me the number for because she knew I would have this problem again, and I should call to start a paper trail. I didn't think anything of it after I picked the car up. Anyway, they were closed. I called first thing this morning 8:00 am. After waiting 15 minutes for someone to answer the phone, I was not talking to a rep who I'll call John. After giving him all of my information, then telling him the history of the problem, he places me on hold for 20 minutes. John returns and said that he spoke with the dealership that serviced my car and they confirmed my "story". My story... now I'm a bit upset... I think up until now, I've handled this whole thing quite well... John then asks "so, what do you want us to do?" HELLO... FIX MY CAR... or give me a new one. I am tire of this... he places me on hold again... 10 minutes later, John is back on the line and tells me, someone will research my claim, and be in touch with me in 3-5 days. AAHHHH.... I call the dealership and tell them that I am on my way up there to bring this car... I am cleaning it out, and dropping it off. She tells me that the replacement windshield just arrived, but they don't have a rental, and won't have one until Wednesday... I informed her of my weekend car haps, and she says okay... bring it in. Will let you all know what happens next. (I wish I didn't like the MKX so much)... dang :stats: :stats: .
makidada
Does your State have a lemon Law?????????? Yes, Ohio has a lemon law... I am in the process of researching it now... I do not want to hire an atty. so I am hoping that they will try to get this situation resolved as soon as possible.
makidada
Have them check the wiring harness. There's no way they could have that many bad PCM's in a row. Well tell them when they call me for my daily update... but don't you think that is something that they should be aware of, and should have checked already? Again, thanks for the tip, will pass it on.

Again, thanks for the tip, will pass it on. Of course it's something they should have checked, but it doesn't sound like your current dealer has a clue. I'd take it to another dealer and explain that the first one wasn't able to fix it. It's worth a shot.
wizofozus
Of course it's something they should have checked, but it doesn't sound like your current dealer has a clue. I'd take it to another dealer and explain that the first one wasn't able to fix it. It's worth a shot. My dad had 2003 Ford Econoline with problems similar to yours, but not as bad. Dealer claimed they replaced the PCM a few times. Ford even called in the engineers (experts) claiming they for sure fixed the problem. Dad didn't even make it 10 minutes from the dealer after the dealer promised they fixed it for sure and the check engine light went on. Give them one more shot. Make sure you keep all your slips from the dealer from when you took it in. Sounds like you got a good shot at getting a new car through the lemon law. My Dad filed and won, after the Ford engineers could not fix it. The electrical problems it sounds like you have are very hard to fix. Dealer will likely never find the real problem. They likely never replaced the wiring harness since it's major work to replace it. Where as a PCM is a 5 minute repair.
Former Ford ZM
To the original poster, if you're still having issues and would like some help, please PM me some details on your situation, who your dealer is and such if you'd like some assistance. Allen Kirby can vouch for my claims on my tenure at the Fusion boards, I may be in a position to help you...
Phoenix
Have them check the wiring harness. There's no way they could have that many bad PCM's in a row. It took them 10 days. ABS light on, Powertrain light on, Traction Control light on. They replaced the ABS and Powertrain modules (again, just like they did in SLC). I *literally* turned the engine over, still in the dealer's lot and the warning lights were on. Again. It was a wiring harness. They had to climb through all of them, but it's fixed now. Phoenix
Oh, and I do highly recommend >1 dealer. The best evidence I had was 4 different dealers all agreeing that the issue was real. One could have "not been able to reproduce" the issue. But 4? That was crystal clear.
druck52
Phoenix, I am curious, what dealership do you deal with here in the valley?
Phoenix
I like Earnhardt the best (Ray and 1-10). Bell Ford and Sanderson are both really good, too, but not on my regular driving route. I live in the West valley, work in the East valley. Pioneer on Litchfield was the facility that fixed the issue. It's stayed gone this time ;-)
druck52
I was just wondering because i work at Sanderson.
