wayneo
I bought a used 2013 edge in June, the dealer told me that the back up camera doesn't work and that it would cost $600 to fix it and he wasn't going to put that kind of money into the car, well Monday the camera started working, then yesterday stopped again, any ideas what could be wrong. the screen says to contact my dealer
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Change the camera. Pretty easy to DIY. Just a matter of getting the part, which sometimes can be found for a relative deal on eBay (150 instead of 300). Use OEM only! If you don't mind not having the calibrated lines, you can install a Gen 2 Edge backup camera instead. Works fine from all reports.
wayneo
when the camera was working there were no calibrating lines if i install a new camera is there software that need to be installed also?
omar302
EBay now has cheap aftermarket cameras for around $60 or less. As for the guidelines, you'd need a dealer to calibrate the camera to get them, or use ForScan with a compatible adapter.
enigma-2
One other thing I would check is to check the camera connector for any corrosion, particularly around the ground wire pin. (Simple, no-cost option before laying out any $$$).
wayneo
Do you know how i would access the camera to check for corrosion around the ground wire pin?
enigma-2
Honestly no, probably have to pop the inside hatch cover. Perhaps someone who's done this will chime in.
enigma-2
I bought a used 2013 edge in June, the dealer told me that the back up camera doesn't work and that it would cost $600 to fix it and he wasn't going to put that kind of money into the car, well Monday the camera started working, then yesterday stopped again, any ideas what could be wrong. the screen says to contact my dealerTry this. Go into the menus and turn OFF everything associated with the rear camera. Then touch the HOME button and put car in reverse. If tbe camera is now working, go back in and turn on all the camera controls (camera, lines, etc.)
wayneo
Enigma thanks for the advise put that did not work, i thought that i read on here to try a master reset. do you think i should try this? what will this reset?
enigma-2
Master reset will erase the eeprom (all of your user data, nav settings, destinations, those type of things). Make a note of all your information before you reset.
wayneo
well i just got the car in June so i really don't have anything saved do you think a master reset will resolve the problem?
enigma-2
I was only thinking of things to try before replacing the camera. Have no idea if it will work, but doesn't cost anything to try. I read in other forum that this problem was also traced to a corroded camera connector. Try the reset and if it doesn't fix it, pull the camera connector and look for corrosion. If you don't find anything, your down to changing the camera.
wayneo
yea looks like i am going to have to look for any corrosion on the camera connection, and if nothing is found , replace the camera
