ben senise
sometimes when I connect my phone to the usb cable, android auto won't start or connect. i have noticed that when it does this, the slider under settings/bluetooth is in the "off" position and I cannot slide it to "on." It is just frozen there. after a while, it goes back on by itself and android auto starts and connects. i used to do a reset and that would work but then i had to change my settings everywhere. i got tired of this and just decided to let it go and that's when i discovered that it would eventually reset itself. has anyone else seen this behavior and if so, have you found a solution or at least a workaround (that doesn't involve a reset or waiting an indeterminate amount of time?) The car is a 2016 Edge Ti (Sony system) with Sync 2.2. The phone is a Google Pixel XL with the latest Android build (8.0.0) and android auto 2.6. This problem was occurring before i updated to sync 2.2 and before i upgraded to oreo. in fact, this sync business has been pretty sucky since day one. enigma-2
Try a different USB cable.
ben senise
Try a different USB cable. it has happened with two different cables; the cable that came with the pixel and a the one that came installed in the pro-clip mount. how do you think a USB cable would affect bluetooth being on or off? enigma-2
Thinking that a bad USB cable would fool the ACU into thinking nothing was connected. On my MKX if I don't have a USB cable connected, the controls are grayed out.

On my MKX if I don't have a USB cable connected, the controls are grayed out. but bluetooth is wireless. i can connect via bluetooth without the usb cable, just not use android auto. when the graphic slider switch is stuck, the phone isn't even plugged into the USB cable. the phone should connect to BT so i can use sync without android auto and make calls or play music. this is why i'm confused by the possibility that the USB cable is causing the BT to get stuck. enigma-2
Sorry, I seem to have stuck on your first sentence and missed the intent of your problem. After rereading your posts are you saying that your connected by USB and are attempting to run Android Auto through bluetooth? I'm confused as to how your connecting. . I think he's saying that it gets "stuck" sometimes when connected through a USB to run Android Auto, but then it even gets stuck when not using Android Auto and connected via Bluetooth (for regular stuff...calls, etc). I'm sure you don't want to try this, but have you tried backing your phone up and doing a master reset on it? Perhaps it's the phone that's the issue. I'm sure you don't want to try this, but have you tried backing your phone up and doing a master reset on it? Perhaps it's the phone that's the issue. exactly. i discovered the issue while trying to use android auto since when i plugged the USB cable in, it wouldn't launch, and i discovered that the USB slider switch was off and couldn't be moved into the "on" position. then i discovered that this occurred even without plugging in the cable. this has occured with multiple cables, two phones, with the original Sync version and with the updated version. i have reset and replaced just about everything. my main goal in posting here was to ask if anyone else is having the same issue or i'm the only one. of course, if someone had the solution to the problem, or even the root cause of the problem, that would be great. i can't show it to the dealer because it's unpredictable both when it occurs and when it fixes itself. i was thinking of recording video of the switch not sliding to prove that i'm not crazy. enigma-2
Understand the problem better now, thanks. I wonder if one of the programs that Android Auto is using, has taken control of the system and causing it to lock up. Just guessing, but if your open to suggestions, is Android Ato been upgraded to the latest version? How about all of the programs (apps) that it uses? Can you regain control of the system by pressing the pressing the Tachometer icon in the bottom right corner of the touchscreen? Are you able to regain control by unlocking AA from Sync 3? (Settings icon on the features bar > Android Auto Preferences icon > select phone and disable).

As I have a Pixel and it is a "pure android" phone by google, everything is updated as soon as it comes out. i have the settings at automatically update and as soon as i get notifications, i go through with them. as the issue occurs with or without android auto running or even the usb cable running, yes, i can get back to sync by exiting AA (bottom right corner icon). i have not yet tried the last item in your suggestions but now i will next time it happens. good idea. would help isolate the cause. thanks. i'll report back here once i try that.
